rolleyes.gif

We're talking about a 250% difference here. 1.24GHz 3-core PowerPC versus 3.2GHz 3-core PowerPC. If you disabled one of the G630's cores and downclocked the other to 1.33GHz, then yeah, the 552 would be faster.

I never said 8 years of technology advancements don't mean anything. I'm saying that the Wii U's processor is NOT superior to the 360's.

Nintendo once again cut corners to save on TDP and heat, and surprise surprise, won't be able to run next-gen AAA games that well (if at all).

I was under the impressions that the Wii U had better hardware than the 360 and PS3? Apparently not, what a failure of a console...

You're right, this is OCN, where we all understand that a CPU cannot be one-third the clock speed of its competitor, and still come out on top. Especially since they are both IBM PowerPC architecture.

Or are you going to tell me that a 3rd-gen i7 clocked at 2GHz is the same as a 1st-gen at 6?

Saying they are both PowerPC's is the same as saying they are both Pentiums. There is a long list of architectures that have used the PowerPC name. I say it again the tri-core Xenon in the Xbox 360 is an over 8 year old design. Whats more the xbox's Xenos is not really a PowerPC chip in the first place. Its a PPE Cell processor that uses the "Power" Instruction set making it different then say a PowerPC 970FX.

Unless you have some insider information about the CPU used in the Wii U we can only speculate on the actual performance.

If the 1st and 3rd generation i7's were 8 years apart you might almost have a point. A single ivy bridge core at 1.24Ghz would almost certainly beat out out a p4 running at 3.2Ghz.

just goes to show how advanced this current generation console is.

...And probably what is to come from other manufacturers.

Well, looks like the PC platform is in for another decade of slow advancement. At least i won't need to update my components as much.

I know, I'm in awe right now.

Yea, I won't even bring up the fact that the Wii U CPU is capable of out-of-order execution, while the 360 and PS3 aren't.....

Ooops....I guess I just brought it up. I will let them all run and scamper to find out what that means, and how it is a HUGE boost in efficiency with processing.
