[GP] Metro: Last Light Canceled for Wii U Due to “Horrible, Slow GPU” - Page 8

That's all true, but it comes with an estimated 1/3 of the transistors, 1/2 of the threads and a 1.24GHz clock speed.

Oh, and there was an update to this article, and the studio took back what they said, or rather, clarified what they said. They had their hands on a very early version of the Wii U and based off what they seen, and not actually attempted, decided against going for it. It had nothing to do with the "slow CPU".
I guess that depends on how you interpret their response.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
“Our look at the Wii U extended to a very early look at some very early kits. We…we did some work on it, but we made a decision fairly early on that we weren’t going to commit further resource to it. So yeah, we didn’t go too far."
So they based their decision not to follow through on the specs in the dev kits. That seems to fall in line with the "weak cpu" leak from before.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
"Take any of the comments you’ve seen attributed with a pinch of salt – it’s certainly not been based on any kind of analysis of final hardware."
Here they backpedal a bit, but still don't outright deny the earlier insinuation.

The dev kits looked too weak but the final hardware, which may or may not be improved, might be up to the task, or not. They're talking without really saying anything. Meanwhile there's still no Wii-U port in the works.

It honestly sounds more like damage control to me. *shrug*

Not that I really care either way, the last console I bought was a Dreamcast... those were the days drum.gif

I think the Wii U is kind of cool and works well. I wouldn't get one at the moment given it costs so much (Maybe when it hits 150-200 and has some games like Zelda and Metroid). I think the sad thing about the Wii U is not the mediocre hardware; it's the terrible services. In a lot of ways, despite dominating console sales this generation; their online services and other content are incredibly dated. I don't know if they'll ever catch up in that regard.

You've never actually used a Wii U, have you? Nintendo is improving greatly. Their new online system is at least on par with Sony, and the Miiverse is oddly awesome. And I would hardly call the Wii U mediocre in the hardware department. I've seen some awesome looking stuff on there. And how well the Wii U integrates it self into your TV services 'n such is oddly awesome as well (if useless for my own set up. Huzzah TV antenna! I tested this at my parents place though, and it worked beautifully there). Really, I'm just getting the sense developers just don't WANT to work with new hardware and that some of these projects were already far enough into production that it wouldn't be a good idea for them. Some of them make stupid excuses, which is what annoys me. If they were just up front about it.. "Developing for the Wii U doesn't fit our current development plan" is a far better and more believable excuse then some garbage about the hardware.

The Wii U is AT LEAST as good as the 360 and PS3. The only reasons we have not good ports of games on the Wii U right now is because the hardware is new and people don't know how to use it yet. I've played ME3 on my Wii U, I've played AC3, Batman, all were enjoyable and gave me visual quality on par of that on the 360 AT LEAST. Some bugs, sure, but since when were game ports to the PC perfect all the time?

This isn't '*cry* consoles are bad' post, just what it is.

Why get a Wii over a 360? Virtual console, Zelda, Mario, various first and 3rd party titles, don't have to pay to access stuff over your own internet connection, easy to mod the heck out of, game cube backwards compatibility, not covered with ads even if you did pay for that theoretical "service."

Better option, live and let live. You enjoy what you enjoy, don't bring me down because you don't enjoy what I enjoy. To each their own, so let it be that way.

Best option, [EXPUNGED]

Or do what I did and have a 360, PS3, and Wii all at the same time. I didn't like the 360 because of Xbox Live and after several months sold it to get gas money. I didn't like the PS3 because the controller is rather terrible compared to the 360 one, but otherwise I enjoyed it and used it as my main media center. Sadly had to sell it for gas money not to long ago. I didn't like my Wii because of how terrible the 3rd party support was and friend code system, but otherwise loved it for retro stuff and tinkering. Sold it because I got a Wii U and haven't regretted it.

Fun fact, did you know that the 360 slim and PS3 slim seem to physically hate each other? When I had both systems next to each other, their respective wireless systems (bluetooth and wi-fi) stopped working, causing much frustration. I eventually moved them to opposite sides of my TV stand with my Wii being a wall between them. This is a true story, fyi. Funny one too.

Morons.... The devs don't realize the wii u's GPU is superior, faster powerful ect... Then the Xbox 360 and ps3 rofl....

Newbies need to reevaluate thier crappy port module for it.

Regardless of whatever underlying reason it may have been to be cancelled, I do not think it's going to have a substantial effect. I do not know of any adults who purchased a Wii U for themselves yet. I've heard of some children receiving them, but no adults. I do not think the current, and small, user-base of the Wii U will see large sales of an adult themed game like Metro. It's probably not a major loss for Nintendo, it's user-base, or for 4A Games. If the Wii U had been out for a while and had a much larger and more diversified user-base, this might have been a bigger deal.

I purchased the Wii U day one and love it, just sold my Xbox the other day so I could pre-order some more up and coming games in the next few months.

I think more of the reason to why they decided to pull this port was because it couldn't afford to go out on a limb and use the resources necessary to put it on the Wii U with all the financial trouble there having. PS3 and 360 have much larger user bases so it makes more sense to go where the money is.

If any of you have actually sat down and played with this, you would realize its more then capable of playing any current gen game on the market if it was built or properly ported.

Ha! Lovely.

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2012/11/16/qa-game-publisher-ubisoft-ceo-on-the-wii-u/

Ubisoft did not say the same.

I'm more inclined towards thinking they are not able to make the gam run pretty without ridiculously vast amounts of processing power such as that found on a desktop, where you can literally use unlimited resources and people with CFX 7990s will still say MOARR!! I WANT MOAR GRAPHICS!!

If they are planning to go with extreme postprocessing and extreme light effects like in 2033 (as opposed to making a nice ambientation without needing that), sorry, not going to happen. My 6950, which is several times as fast, chokes to a crawl with that.

Now, about this:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
“Our look at the Wii U extended to a very early look at some very early kits. We…we did some work on it, but we made a decision fairly early on that we weren’t going to commit further resource to it. So yeah, we didn’t go too far."

WHAT THE HELL. So they are basing they opinions on a very light look to a very early dev kit? As if Nintendo consoles were 'traditional' platforms, or had ever been.
I think they may have missed essential pieces of the WiiU hardware JUST by their outright refusal to give it an indepth view.

Good riddance, if they weren't even capable of giving it a proper shot. I don't need lazy devs on my console.

Oh, and I edit again. What 4A is saying, is also contradictory with Nintendo's own word. Check this:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/zelda-for-wii-u-in-2014-report-6394633

They were most likely trying to pull another EA Games, like what they did with the remade NFS Hot Pursuit:

Then they realized that they would've seen as 'lazy asses' and hurt their sales on other platforms.

Where are you located? In the midwest store shelfs are loaded with them and they are not selling very well. The REAL reason the game is not being made is there are not enough Wii U's being sold so the odds of people picking up this piece off software is low, thus no profit. You people have to remember, games are made to make profit, not to make gamers happy.
