Looking for headphones comparable to AD700s

Thread Starter
Hi,

I'm looking for a new set of headphones plus a sound card. I was looking at the AD700 and it's so ugly I could not put myself to use them. If anyone could make some suggestions, that would be great.

Budget: 100-150 (headphones) + ~50 (sound card)

Usage: Mostly gaming (FPS, RTS, RPG) with some music (classic rock, some pop). I will mostly be using them at home, but will take them on the airplane and on road trips.

Perks: I would like to have directional sound for FPS games, and some bass.

Amp: I don't have one, nor do I want to buy one.

Location: I live in Canada, don't really know which store to buy from.

Thanks in advcance!

In that price range there aren't many options. Ultrasone Pro 550/DJ1 Pro or Ultrasone HFI-580/DJ1 but they are sonically nothing like the AD700s.

Another suggestion is the Denon AH-D1100s if you want to wait for a sale which are again, not like the AD700s. The Pro 550s or the D1100s would be my pick for gaming among the 3 options.

Are the AD700s really that good? Are they worth never being seen in public?

I wouldn't recommend wearing them on public.
Take a look at the pro550 like paperclip said. They are more compact, and have good sonic qualities for gaming.

You stated you wanted some bass...

So why are you considering the AD700's?
You know they have absolutely no, none, 0 bass right?

In my opinion no, they really aren't that good. They have good for gaming because they have great positional ques but other than that, I am not a fan of them. The reason they are so popular is because of the great positioning and the price. Most people don't want to spend over $100 so they are left with them.

I looked at the Ultrasone DJ1 Pros, and they seem very nice. Does anyone have a suggestion for a soundcard that is around 50$? (Or a higher priced one if it makes a huige difference)
