Help me pick a motherboard.

Hello guys smile.gif

I'm currently in the process of choosing between the ASRock Extreme 4 motherboard or Gigabyte's UD3 motherboard. I'm planning to use AMD's FX-8320 and I'm also planning to overclock it. I've had a great experience with Gigabyte boards (Right now, I'm using their EP45-UD3P for my old Q9550 and it OC'ed it like a champ), and I've never used ASRock boards, however, I read that they are a great company and are really reliable.

So basically, out of these two boards, which one will perform and OC better? Oh and I'm on a slightly tight budget ($150 is the highest I can go), so I can't get a motherboard that's better, but costing a lot more.

Please help and thank you smile.gif

EDIT: I've also been looking at the ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 and the Gigabyte GA-970A. Just to make things a bit more easier, I will want to overclock my [soon-to-be] FX-8320 processor to the highest overclock possible, so I'm basically asking which board will overclock better. thumb.gif

Personally I would go with the ASRock board. I have had two, on the Intel side, but needless to say they are great boards.

I think that they should run about the same. However, I like the Gigabyte's color scheme better. That one wins in my opinion (but just because of the colors).

If you are talking about an AsRock 990FX Extreme 4 then go for the AsRock.

Yeah I thought about that, too, especially since my color scheme is blue and black... but I rather have performance than looks... at times, lol. tongue.gif

Seems like the majority of people would pick the ASRock Extreme 4 smile.gif (not just here - I did research and a lot of other people from other sites also picked the ASRock board)

Although I would appreciate more feedback tongue.gif I just want to be 100% sure I'm making a great decision, because I'm planning to keep this for about a year or two...or three rolleyes.gif

I have 3 AsRock 970 Extreme 3 and a friend of mine has an ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX. I put one of the AsRock 970 through some hellish stress test on 4 different CPU and it is still running. Remember this is a 4+1 phase power on the 970 Extreme and the 990FX Extreme 4 is 8+2.
960 @ 4.2ghz, 6100 @ 4.4ghz, 8150 @ 4.3ghz, 8320 @ 4.5ghz and On 4 core on the 8320 @ 4.7ghz. My friend has a 8150 @ 4.7ghz on an ASRock Fatal1ty. AsRock has very good VRM.

I've had the the gigabyte 990fx ud3 and i'm currently running an ASRock z77 extreme 4. I think they are both great boards as far as performance. I believe the gigabyte board had more SATA III connections than my extreme 4 does but the ASRock board was cheaper. For me, the ASRock board was a better value b/c it was cheaper and it had more things like fan headers and better BIOS.

And VRMs are really important if overclocking, correct? smile.gif

Thanks for the helpful feedback smile.gif Yeah I think the Gigabyte board does have an extra SATA3 connection or two, but I don't run a lot of SATA drives, so it's all good.
