Good turn based strategy/RPG games?

So I've been on a binge playing strategy games lately... everything from the Dawn of War games... to Tropico 4, Command and Conquer, Star Craft 2, Kings Bounty, Heroes of Might and Magic, Warlock, Civ5... just a ton of different strategy games.

Now I think by far I've been enjoying games like Warlock, Civ5, Kings Bounty and the Might and Magic games the most. I just love taking my time and thinking out what I want to do next. I've always enjoyed turn based games, like old school RPGs and even stuff like Advance Wars on the Gameboy.

Well... I went looking for similar games that are either upcoming or have been recently released and there isn't really anything that I could find out there. The newest one was from a few months ago... and that was Warlock.

What games would you guys suggest to look into that are in similar style to those I mentioned... and that were maybe released in the last 3 years or so. Are ANY new ones being made?

EDIT: Everyone is not reading the thread title... or even my post... TURNED BASED GAMES!!!

Warlo...Dammit already mentioned it. Warlock is a great game. Got about 10 hours logged. Uh let's see. XCOM: Enemy Unknown. I'm not a big RTS guy, but I'm enjoying XCOM. I know Company Of Heroes 2 is coming out this year.

well, what about dragon age: origins?

now i know its not turn based. It is a third person RPG that lets you pause the game and plan your moves (also have AI strats for basic tasks so you dont really need to pause every 0.5 sec in the battle)

Not exactly turn based or strategy-focused but i suppose you might be williing to try it since it does fit the "take your time and plan" aspect. widely acclaimed game, diverse gameplay, decent story with dialogue options that actual matter. Must buy for RPG fans (don't play DA2)

I can't believe I forgot X-Com... I'm waiting for it to drop in price before getting it though. tongue.gif

Own both DA games with all DLC... played it a bit. Loved the Neverwinter Nights games... but haven't really dived into the series yet. Still I think I'm looking more into actual strategy games... more like Final Fantasy Tactics and the sort... real turn based. Not simulated turn based through die rolls.

As everybody has already told you, xcom is an awesome turn based ga,e , another strategy game worth mentioning is supreme commander !

Endless Space - If you ever played Master of Orion, I consider Endless Space to be what MOO 3 /should/ have been. Turn based 4x space conquest strategy. I have over 200 hours logged on that one, and they recently rebalanced things which increased replayability even more.

X-Com as mentioned above is quite excellent, although imo it doesn't have quite the replayability, but it is a mix of realtime-ish strategic level mixed with turn based squad combat missions. I have about 40 hours logged on X-Com.

I really can't recommend Endless Space enough. The multiplayer is also quite awesome, although with good team play it does become ridiculously easy playing against comps, so you have to turn to pvp eventually tongue.gif

Yes, Supreme commander series is also pretty fun, RTS not turn based, but quite fun. If you want RTS you could also try the Dawn of War series, I have been a 40K fan since Space Hulk in the 90's, so it scratched that itch for me hehe.

Gonna go play some Endless Space now, since this thread reminded me how fun it is smile.gif

Ever play The Temple of Elemental Evil with the Circle of Eight mod? I really enjoyed it. It's older, but it's great.

Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. There's still an active community, along with a client, patches, etc. called FAF. It has a crazy learning curve but man the game is awesome. It's my favorite RTS personally. Thousands of units, focus on build power, overly complex, the zoom function that makes you want to scroll wheel in every RTS you play afterwards.
