100% CPU usage Borderlands 2

Thread Starter
Been lurking here for quite a while, never posted anything as you all can see. I apologize in advance if this is posted in the wrong spot, or if i didn't use the search bar long enough to find a related thread. Right now I'm running an Intel 2500K @ 4.2 and a GTX 670. I've been having minor frame rate issues when I Alt Tab back into the game (dips to > 10 fps for a couple of seconds to a minute after alt tabbing/starting a new game). Never had anything like this happen when I was using my 6870. Even then, when I had physics cranked up to full running off my CPU I did not see 100% CPU usage. If you guys have any Ideas as to what may be causing these problems (maybe not problems at all for all I know) I'd appreciate any responses. Using latest Nvidia drivers. Used drive sweeper to clear out my old ati drivers as well before the recent install of my 670. Also GPU usage is, on average, 60%. Jumping up to 80's with physx effects. Thanks in advance for any replies/help! thumb.gif

Sounds like youve got processes still running for a while after tabbing back in. What are you doing on the desktop when you tab out? Are you closing them before tabbing back in?

Well, just discovered I was off a little bit. It only jumps up to 100% use for a few seconds after alt-tabbing back into the game (when I keep getting that nasty fps drop). Only major thing I have running is Firefox. With Firefox alone my CPU sits at 1-11% ish. I'm starting to think it's either a problem with the games coding (although i found nothing about this) or an issue with my card staying it 2D for a few seconds.

What is PhysX set to? High? Medium?

Applying Physx to your CPU is too much for your 2500k. Put PhysX to Low and see if you get the same FPS dips.

Physx ran slowly when I had a 6870, hence I would understand the CPU load. Now however, it's running off my GTX 670, which is at around 60% usage during normal gameplay. Physx is set to high. The almost never dips below 60fps with adaptive V-sync, except when I tab in.

Try to use the fullscreen windowed / borderless window option in the video options. It's wonderful for alt-tabbing thumb.gif
