Overclocking 1055t lead me to unexpected issues, possible corruption?

So embarked on the journey of overclocking today as a novice. Read up a bunch about different things to tweak trying to get to 3.6 and managed reaching 3.4 with most things besides FSB on auto. Anyways I met halfway and achieved 3.5 ghz after 2 hours of tweaking and restarting my comp. The thing is now one of my two windows 7 partitions has changed. I logged into my SSD partition and I got a bunch of device and software errors saying "Desktop gadget could not load" "settings.ini is being used by another process" "Windows installer is in use by another program." Also internet explorer wont work, but Chrome does and gives me security certificate errors. Certain games wont work, The system time got reset, all my restore points are gone. Another weird thing is Adobe software all works, Autodesk software works.

I do not know what is going on, what is the root cause of all these software problems??? Could experimenting with voltages and memory timings messed one of two partitions up? I checked what the max voltages were for all my components so I do not believe I went over any limits.

Another oddity: Windows update keeps installing thee same 5 updates over and over.

Try running sfc /scannow in elevated command prompt, that'll check that the core files for windows are all in tact. And try chkdsk /f.

Well i did a scannow and that came out okay chkdsk just fixed minor file name issues. Just restarted and viola...its still screwy.

Im just wondering what could cause the time to reset and restore points be removed because mannn would i love a restore point that is not 10 mins ago right about now :/

Restart tap f8, go to repair computer try a system restore from there. Also there is an option for show hidden restore points. The time could be resetting if your bios clock and date is off. As long as you didn't make any file system changes while your CPU + Ram were unstable I don't see it being corrupted.

woah new discovery. A lot of the control panel's functions are not functioning. Clicking add or remove users does nothing, same with parental controls, and review your computer's status, device manager ect ect. Sounds like reformat time.

Yup, you corrupted your installation.

Probably by installing those updates with an unstable system.

On my old rig, it led to un-bootable hard drives... redface.gif

I say, backup all you need (at STOCK settings), and do a fresh install.

Probably corrupted something. Also, make sure your SATA buses were not overclocked. Set FSB to 200 because higher bus speeds can corrupt hard disk drive activity especially between an unstable chip.

I'd reset to stock and do fresh install as Artikbot said smile.gif
