If your game takes too long, it will always fail. Nothing could possibly live up to the expectation everyone is putting on it right now. I just plan to play it with an open mind and pretend it wasn't in development for too long. If it ever comes out..that is.

This is actually quite a disturbing angle. If HL3 is delivered within like 5 years, it will be expected to run on the rather anemic hardware of the Steambox. And in that case I don't see much tech improvement in the cards. (For me, the impressive visuals and tech behind HL2 were a huge part of why it was so enthralling.)

Do people really think Valve is going to leave their golden child behind?

I don't feel it's that far off [two years at most.. I feel like it might be sooner because of the increasing amount of trolling (HL3 shirt, Ricochet 2, this..)] . I can see Valve purposely leaking these screenshots to troll us, while building hype at the same time. Heck, it's even through ValveTime.. the site which Gabe went through to try to catch the hacker responsible for the HL2 leak. There's probably some good relations between them. I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but I wouldn't put it past Valve to do something like that.

Soon my friends.. Soon.
You say that now.. I'm sure many of the people saying this are going to be crying out of joy the moment it's released. xD

2 years?

Half Life episode 3 should have been out a long time ago!

I try to play all my games with an open mind and not let the hype develop my opinion of the gameplay. However, I know there will be many players that will bash Half-Life 3 or Episode 3 regardless of what Valve releases.

Not really.. We should all be accustomed to Valve time by now.

For the level of quality Valve puts into their games, I am more than willing to wait.

This is unfortunately true. However, as long as we enjoy it ourselves, none of that bashing will matter. smile.gif

It shouldn't take almost 6 years to develop another expansion unless they are turning it in to a full blown 15 hour game.

Well there you go.. It's more than likely not just going to be episode 3, but a full on sequel. Valve could have ended episode 2 with such a cliffhanger on purpose. Gabe is a big enough troll to do so.

Or the new source engine could just be extremely optimized and will work well on a wide range of hardware.
