Do not under any circumstances buy the asrock extreme 3 with the 8 core fx cpu if you plan to overclock. The vrm phase delivery on this board is not good enough. I can tell you from personal experience, I own and replaced this board that it will throttle your cpu ghz speed at pretty much anything above 4.1ghz due to vrm temps hitting thermals well before your cooling system or cpu will. The extreme 4 is the better board for the 8 core cpu, or the sabertooth or crosshair v and I think its a gigabyte ud3 of a variation but someone else will confirm.

The extreme 3 is fine with a fx4170@4.7 but the vcore required for the 8 core and the power draw is a different proposition

Yes I think that's the one but wait for extra confirmation. That one has the 8+2 vrm power phase required for the 8 core and overclocking. The extreme 3 is a great little board it just wont handle an overclocked fx8. I replaced mine with the saber tooth and use the extreme 3 with the fx4170
