No display No power to usb devices

Thread Starter
Hello all posting here to maybe get some insight on my current problem i will start with my specs and get into the problem.

Cpu - Amd Phenom II 840T @ 3.8Ghz
MB - Asrock 970 Extreme 3
PSU - Corsair HX750
GPU - MSI 7850 power edition
Audio - Asus Xonar DG
HDD - 1.5TB WD green/80GB Seagate
Case - Cooler master Haf xm
Cooling - Coolermaster hyper 212+ - 4x120mm fans 3x200mm fans
Optical Drive - Dvd Writer
Ram - Generic 2x4GB
OS - Windows 8 Release Preview

if i missed anything let me know.

So on to the problem was playing Darksiders 2 last night when all of a sudden i lost display and power to usb devices ie mouse keyboard
but the fans still hummed along. tried powering down wouldnt work had flip the switch on the psu for it to turn off gave it some time tried rebooting wont power usb devices or send anything to the display. have had no issues recently with the computer. but have noticed a few chugs in the past few days wasnt sure if that was from something else or not but here i am and the computer wont post or boot. currently i am at school so i cant really test anything but am looking for some input as to what the problem could be so when i go home i can try to get it running.

My first thought is the motherboard died for some reason keep it cool and clean so thats not the issue. second thought is psu but havent had issues from that and have watched the Volts on it before in bios and never had any huge dips just the normal smalls amounts from time to time nothing below 12v on the rail stuff like that. also thought it could be my cpu but wouldnt it post or still show display and power usb devices.

Anyways any suggestions are welcome aside from "get an intel" as i am or should say was currently happy with my setup.

This sounds like a motherboard failure to me. Keeping a board clean and cool wont stop a board from failing. Any hardware is prone to failure.

^^^THIS

EDIT
Even one of the toughest 990FX can go bad. I had to RMA my Asus Sabertooth for a faulty PCI-E slot and this is after 1.5 yrs without any problems.

Swapping the Ram (i had 1stick corsair vengeance 4gb laying around) booted right up im thinking i may have toasted one of the modules on that note i am finding single channel memory SUPER slow and sluggish and getting freezes in windows. if i check the generic ram and if one is working will it create that much of a hard time performance wise using the generic with the corsair even just temporary till i get an 8gb kit, or will i still be getting performance loss
