It's just that I found it here from a local distributor for 99 EGP~$15 so that's pretty much a very good deal plus I get local warranty as opposed to buying it off Amazon.com from the U.S.!

and my question still stands ""Can I use it as a modem only without using its routing capabilities ?"

and I have another question in mind, I've read on the website that these devices both the 8616 and 8816 have multiple versions released, What is the difference between each version released if anyone knows!?

Fair enough, that's pretty good indeed.
Yes the 8816 will work in bridge mode and will do PPPoE pass through smile.gif

Don't worry too much about DSL modems these days dude. The multiple versions will just be different revisions - might need to check firmware docs to see any potential differences.

There is no firmware docs! Do you know what might be different in these revisions?

I can not comment specifically aboput the TP Link 8816, but I do own and use the TP Link 8810, which looks to be the cheaper entry-model version of the 8816 you have linked.

As a complete ADSL2+ modem/router, doing the full authentication and handling routing, firewall, pnp, port forwarding, etc, it is not that great, but as a modem in bridged mode, with something else taking care of routing and authentication, it works flawlessly.

I have it bridged to my firewall/gateway server, and it stays up for months on end, with the only outages caused by the actual ADSL or telephone line providers - it is very reliable modem when used in bridged mode.

What about the 8810? is that in stock? It should be a few dollars cheaper then the 8816 anyway, and it performs great in bridged mode smile.gif

They only had the 8816 only out of all the TP-LINK Non-Wireless routers! that's the trend in Egypt, everyone sells ADSL Router/Modem, no modem only but we do have the Linksys E-series and EA-series wireless routers that don't include the modem part!? Rgardless, I'm going to be buying from Amazon.com so I'm OK with any suggestions available there.
