Will the new 700 series be worth changing over to ?

There is exactly 0% reliable info on the next generation right now. Everything is purely speculation.

my opinion i think it will be worth it.. I have a 660ti that im going to a 770 for sure even tho i dont need to but i do want the better card
post #153 of 203
If you believe the rumors that the GTX 680 (GK104) is actually originally meant to be the GTX 660, then this is hardly surprising. rolleyes.gif

Supposedly Big Kepler, GK110, was supposed to be the GTX 680 but it's in the Tesla K20 instead. If they release the GTX 700 series with GK110 or its refresh people that bought GTX 680s will be sad.

AMD drivers are fine, I have never had a driver crash that wasn't due to OCing too far. In fact, I say AMD support is better since they support Virtualized GPU BIOS (AKA, you can pass an AMD card to a VM, they've been doing this since 2008. nVidia still doesn't.)

12.11, 'nuff said. If you mean fixes for games that just came out to optimize them, they both do that, be it by profiles or actual driver update.

Becasue we totally don't have 3d support for almost any game, and the profiles for them aren't opensource so you can get them day one instead of waiting (either for it to be made, or fixed) either. Oh right, we do and they are.

We can also use a variety of 3D modes, including passive, without having to pay more then we did for the GPU just to use "nvidia 3dvision". Seriously, $80+ for one set of glasses? I use the ones I got from the movie theater for free with my HP 3d screen I picked up for $200. The software I use would probably work with nVidia too of course, but that would mean that the two would be exactly the same.

The 680 is an awesome card. There's no need to justify it, it runs cooler and uses less power, and it's still neck and neck for #1 with the 7970Ghz performance wise.

It has been a while (maybe summer?) since I have looked up anything on the two. Was unaware of 12.11 and had always heard amd's 3d was inferior to nvidias.

Schooled me.

Clock for clock means nothing when it's already been well established that AMD wins that race because the two cards do not scale the same.

So unless we are imposing an artificial cap on clocks, clock for clock in this context is indeed pointless.

1300 mhz 680's aren't common but neither are 1250 mhz 7970.

"Team one wins clock for clock, so clock for clock means nothing." Right.

Again, when two things clock about the same (which they do), the only thing left to get IPS is IPC.
