Do you like Trophies? How many do you have? - Page 2

I'm not much for trophies. I sometimes feel they ruin the game experience and interrupt the flow when I see some the icon flash in the corner. Also, some trophies show how much of the game you've completed. I don't like knowing that.

I used to care about XBL achievements, and for a brief few weeks I cared about PSN tropies, but I never sought them out, though I did Platinum Demon's Souls out of sheer enjoyment for the game, and with some help from the amazing community that series has.

I'm long past the point where I care about such things, as they're worthless in real life.

I much rather obtain real-life accomplishments.

I have nothing but pure hate for everything that is like achievements/thropies. They basically removed cheats and are used as an excuse to lengthen content. I have heard the phrase "but you can do the achievements/trophies" too much when asking why a game was so short.

I agree, but I don't harbor actual hate for them, I just couldn't care less about them and I feel they're hurt gaming and the gaming community.

Thread Starter
Games have always been short though and if anything I think they might have gotten longer. I think its difficult to say whether the games are getting shorter but the demand for lengthier games for your money is certinaly valid. I think the main reason that people claim the trophies extend the game is because if you LIKE playing the game and feel that the trophies are attainable and can either make you explroe elements of the storyline furhter or cause you to enjoy the world a little more then you will try to collect them. The problem comes whereby everyone will have different standards as to what is attainable and reasonable for a trophy with some feeling purely storyline and minor outside ones should be available and others relishing the chance to explore the entire LA Noire world for a few more hours.

And then there are the camp that just hate them although - just because they have trophies doesnt mean you cant have cheats. Goldeneye reloaded you can enable some cheats like in the original game although I'll admit its rarer to see all weapons and unlimited ammo cheats on gta games (I think). Im curious as to how they're hurting the gaming community, can you clarify that?

I will play through a game, and if I get some,I get some. Only a few games I will play over and get more trophies.

I agree with that 100%, including trophies was one of their primary reasons to remove or disable cheat devices. There were lots of times where using a gameshark/action replay got me more replay value out of a game than I would have gotten otherwise. Its personal preference.

On PC I frequently use trainers and cheatengine on games, especially games like Borderlands 2 that are excessively grindy.

The players that hate trophies might be a minority but the ones of us that do, have a deep seeded hate for trophies/achievements for a number of reasons.

I wouldn't complain about trophies if:

They didn't use them as an excuse to disable cheat devices
They didn't use them as the primary means of extending replay value on a game.
They gave me a way to disable them.

On PC games, all I gotta do is crack the games and I can run them with no CD, no steam or origin and last but not least, NO TROPHIES.

I have never tried to get all trophies or achievements in a game. Therefore, I guess I don't really like or care for them.
