PC is far more versatile and can do it all, and as a system it does everything better than any console.
It is far too early to say anything about Steambox. It can easily be looked at as something that's saving PC gaming (as if it needs saving, but I'll get to that after). Steambox will have Steam, all games will be Steamworks and this could mean better mod support than ever via Steam workshop. It would give console gamers a taste of PC gaming, and those who really like what they see might further upgrade to PC. So Steambox might be their attempt to bring PC quality gaming to the masses. Whether I believe this or not doesn't matter, it's far too early to come to conclusions on any of this since Steambox was only just announced.
PC gaming isn't dying either, this is only said by people who blindly love consoles and want
PC gaming do be dying. If anything it's growing. Look at what EA and others had to say about their earnings on the PC market. This is typical, since current gen consoles have long overstayed their welcome. As for '07 being the best year for gaming, and '12 not having many good exclusives, that's purely your opinion. In my opinion, PS3 only has four worthy exclusives, excluding sports games and party games. Uncharted and MGS are the only games that really differ from most of what we have on PC, via cinematic storytelling.
But guess what? We have this on PC too, it's just rare on all platforms these days. The Witcher 2 is one, and Mass Effect which is multiplatform takes cinematic storytelling to a farther extent than MGS and Uncharted. Other PS3 exclusives aren't special. God of War? Dumbed down slasher action game... no thanks. Killzone? Consoles are even more gimped for multiplayer games. Anyway, time to get the measuring tape to see how thick the dust layer is on my PS3.
I don't know I've never been a big graphics affeciando. I've been a big fan of art direction and I managed to get XCOM for the PS3 brand new for a very cheap price. It renders at 1080P on my PC LCD and I could care less about the ambient occlusion and graphical things and they will be considered old and low quality graphical effects before we know it yet the thing that we will remember is the good gameplay that the games that we play had and the memorable times we've had with them.
When I think back on the older games that I loved dearly I don't think about their graphics or ambient occlusion I remember the amazing storyline, gameplay, and times that I've had with the game. It's the same thing with movies a good movie is a good movie and will be timeless whether its black and white done in 480P Black and White or in full 1080P I'll remember the movie for the storyline and the moments a long with the well done art (lighting and locations).
Personally I really feel as though PC Gaming is dying for me atleast. Valve has yet to release anything nw that is PC only besides DOTA 2, TF2 went downhill and is now a pseudo MMO, STALKER is no more besides mod support, Bethesda hasnt gotten it right since Morrowind, D&D styled games are long gone as Dragon Age showed as it sucked in my opinion, theres a major lack of "epic" PC Games for me.
I remember when I first got into PC Gaming when HL2 was first released it was exploding with amazing games now it seems like it's console port, oh another indie title, console port, oh maybe we'll see that game for the PC and consoles in 2 years......etc.
I can say the same thing you said about PS3 games to PC Games. DOTA 2? Oh just DOTA reskinned, SC2? A dumbed down version of StarCraft BW that is unbalanced and has a terrible UI, Diablo 3? Oh a terrible game that does not do Diablo 2 justice, how about The Witcher 1? Oh just a RPG with characters that have the same skin and the same old boring cookie cutter quests and a boring fighting system that is easy even on hard mode.
I could never get into Mass Effect 3, Sherperd just feels like a robot and the gameplay was too easy and the storyline too boring but thats just my opinion. Mass Effect has way too many flaws that I can go on all day about.
You forgot about the titles that are actually good on the PS3, like Valkrie Chronicles (basically a modern version of FF tactics nothing like it has ever been released before), Red Dead Redemption, MGS HD Collection, ICO/Shadow Of The Collosus Collection, Demon Souls, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Dragon's Dogma, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and how about the titles that havent even been released yet like The Last Of Us?
Where are the Epic PC games that we are waiting to be released that are not mods or indie games?

Whats funny is that your post is ignorant as I can play any of the latest PC titles at medium settings at 1080P.
There's no point in upgrading my PC for PC Gaming as all of the new releases are console ports a lot of the console games the PC doesn't even get.
I'd rather put my money into photography gear as wasting hundreds for PC gaming is a huge waste right now in my opinion.Edited by Mwarren - 1/18/13 at 9:41pm
