Anyone else find them gaming less or not at all on the PC after getting a PS3? - Page 9

I am the exact opposite. I only play GT5 on the ps3. My laptop can play anything out, been enjoying far cry 3 (really, REALLY good) and hitman. I went though a phase buying PS3 games...got about 20~ total and never really touch any of them. PC is just much better, I enjoy the freedom I guess.

I've done exactly the opposite to this. I got a PS3 in 2008 and about a year later I gradually started playing more games on my laptop. Then after putting up with constant lag in games I decided I needed a proper computer and built myself a PC just over 2 years ago. Since then the PS3 has been virtually untouched and all of my gaming has been done on a PC, I've probably only used the PS3 for about 3 hours in the past 2 years.

Yeah GT5 was the last PS3 game that I really racked up hours in, until I got Forza 4 which is 9001x better.

@Blameless: Some of the games you listed were also available on consoles. When I said "So name some" I was referring to pc exclusives that were not mmos, and had a significant amount of time that could be put into them in a single player campaign. Although I can see how my lack of typing all that out could have led to confusion.
Sidenote though, can't wait to play the re-release of baldurs gate as I have only played two Baldurs Gate games and they were both on PS2. Loved NWN and Witcher also.

There are games that can never be replaced on console. Halo 1-3, for example is far better than just about anything else out there on console. I got my first actual gaming PC a couple months ago, and I barely play console anymore, and that's usually with friends. Other than that, for me it's mouse and keyboard over controller all day, but consoles still hold a special place in my heart.

You need to start paying attention to those indie titles. "Indie" developers can really keep up with the bigger devs these days. Go take a look at Natural Selection 2, Legend of Grimrock, Torchlight 2, and Chivalry: Medieval Warfare as examples of games you might not think were Indie unless I told you. Plus, even if a game is clearly an indie title, that doesn't mean it's bad. I'd rather sit down at my PC and play FTL: Faster Than Light than the majority of the popular PlayStation 3 exclusives. Why? Thanks to Indie games, there's a ton of variety on PC. When I got my PS3 and I asked my friends who own PlayStations, "which PS3 exclusives I should buy", I always got the same answers. Uncharted, God of War, Metal Gear, Infamous, Demon's Souls, Sky Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, ICO/Shadow of the Colossus. That sounds like a pretty diverse list, right? That's what I would've thought a while ago. However, after playing so many innovative indie games on PC, that whole list now only seems like mildly different third person action games. I know that you already mentioned good ones, like Valkyria Chronicles, I'm just saying that I think those aren't common enough. The majority of the PS3 games don't appeal to me. It has a few gems, and playing those few gems is the only use my PS3 gets.

There's also almost zero sense of community with PS3. On PC, I can be playing a single-player game on Steam, and my friend will message me to ask how far I am, or ask me something about the game, and we'll chat about a bit. Even though I'm playing alone, there's still a sense of community. Compare that to PS3, where I can't be signed in to the Playstation Network and play a PS1/PS2 classic at the same time? mad.gif

PS3 has it's place, I'm using mine to play through Disgaea: Hour of Darkness right now, since it was just released as a PS2 classic this week. I'll get Disgaea D2 when it's released. I'll be playing Ni No Kuni when it's released. The games that I consider the PlayStation gems. Other than those few games, you'll find my in front of my PC.thumb.gif

There are plenty of PC exclusives that offer a lengthy single player experience. The only ones I've played however are The Witcher (40 hours) and each S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game (30-40 hours per game). This isn't quite as high as Zelda though, for which some last up to 80 hours, but only on PC will you find pretty much endless SP games thanks to mods. I'm referring to Skyrim and Fallout 3 and NV of course, which are multiplatform titles but consoles only see a tiny fraction of they're full potential. Many of the good mods greatly enhance lasting appeal for these games... I don't see myself being able to hit 560 hours on Skyrim on console, but on PC it was no issue. smile.gif

Only a handful, and most of the ones that were cross platform were significantly different experiences on console.

I gathered what you meant from the context of your other posts, but I only had one MMO, and only two true cross-platform games.

I did admittedly have some games that were almost exclusively multiplayer (several of the shooters).

The re-release of BG is little different from the modded versions people have been playing for years.

I've played most of those indie titles that you listed. I;m sorry but indie titles just do not have the quality of a mainstream released game. The only indie title that I ever enjoyed was Super Meat Boy and I'm pretty sure even thats on the consoles.

Those indie titles that you listed are obviously indie titles, they have plenty of bugs and the gameplay has many holes and they're not very popular or highly ranked amongst the other games out there that are not indie titles.

You're not looking hard enough if thats the only console games people recommend to you. They're forgetting games like Heavy Rain not to mention all of the PS classics that you guy buy in the PS store like FF tactics and a ton of other games for the PS1 and PS2. There are a ton of hidden gems for the PS3 and plenty of new amazing titles being released for it.

There are a few amazing PC games that I'm awaiting for but their release date is unknown. I still enjoy PC gaming just not as much as PS3 gaming. PC exclusivity/gaming isn't like how it was back in '07.

We have overall better ports now, and more MMOs. Otherwise it isn't too much different... '07 was unique in the sense that it had two very innovative games though: Crysis and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, but it's rare for innovative games to come out.

As for indie titles, I can't speak for the ones he listed, but the ones I play have less bugs than just about every mainstream title in recent years, and far more creativity. These include the Penumbra series, Amnesia, Miasmata, Red Orchestra 2, and Killing Floor. ArmA II and OA are technically indie games, but have a massive studio and it shows: they are light years ahead of any other military-themed shooter and have much more content than any shooter I know of. Mainstream titles are a mess these days; many of them are released prematurely and have bugs or problems/oversights around every corner.
