You need to start paying attention to those indie titles. "Indie" developers can really keep up with the bigger devs these days. Go take a look at Natural Selection 2, Legend of Grimrock, Torchlight 2, and Chivalry: Medieval Warfare as examples of games you might not think were Indie unless I told you. Plus, even if a game is clearly an indie title, that doesn't mean it's bad. I'd rather sit down at my PC and play FTL: Faster Than Light than the majority of the popular PlayStation 3 exclusives. Why? Thanks to Indie games, there's a ton of variety on PC. When I got my PS3 and I asked my friends who own PlayStations, "which PS3 exclusives I should buy", I always got the same answers. Uncharted, God of War, Metal Gear, Infamous, Demon's Souls, Sky Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, ICO/Shadow of the Colossus. That sounds like a pretty diverse list, right? That's what I would've thought a while ago. However, after playing so many innovative indie games on PC, that whole list now only seems like mildly different third person action games. I know that you already mentioned good ones, like Valkyria Chronicles, I'm just saying that I think those aren't common enough. The majority of the PS3 games don't appeal to me. It has a few gems, and playing those few gems is the only use my PS3 gets.
There's also almost zero sense of community with PS3. On PC, I can be playing a single-player game on Steam, and my friend will message me to ask how far I am, or ask me something about the game, and we'll chat about a bit. Even though I'm playing alone, there's still a sense of community. Compare that to PS3, where I can't be signed in to the Playstation Network and play a PS1/PS2 classic at the same time?
PS3 has it's place, I'm using mine to play through Disgaea: Hour of Darkness right now, since it was just released as a PS2 classic this week. I'll get Disgaea D2 when it's released. I'll be playing Ni No Kuni when it's released. The games that I consider the PlayStation gems. Other than those few games, you'll find my in front of my PC.Edited by Redmist - 1/20/13 at 12:17am
