Thanks. The next update should hopefully be the end of this week assuming I have time to make radiator mounts at work.

Sigh Snorkle.gif I never really thought of placing my radiator in the bottom of the casing.. I wonder if it will actually fit there.. Or maybe radiator on one side and fans on the outside.. Oh well.. Gonna have to look once I find time..

Thanks for giving me that bit of inspiration thumb.gif

Haha you're welcome. I don't think the fans would fit under the case though, or if they did there wouldn't be much space between them and the desk/floor.

Edit:
So I'm planning to make a cover that goes along the edge of that optical disc drive shelf thing to cover the HDD, fan, and speaker, but I can't decide what material I want to use. I was thinking of either using metal or acrylic. I know how to form the metal if I go that route, but if I use acrylic I could put LEDs behind it which might look cool but I have no idea how to bend acrylic. What do you guys think?

Well, I could get some low profile 20mm thick fans tongue.gif That would probably help - but I'll have to check..

As for what to make the cover of I am going for acrylic and LEDs on my build - and like you, I have no experience.. We learn as we go tongue.gif

Yeah that would probably work.

I think I will go the acrylic route. I just watched a couple videos and it seems pretty easy to bend. I'll have to build myself a jig to make sure it stays square.

I was going to build a jig today for forming the acrylic (which I ordered this morning) but got back into my Minecraft addiction and built this:

That took up my entire afternoon.

My cousins are supposed to come over at some point in the near future so no modding will be done whatever weekend that is because I'll need that computer. Hopefully that's not next weekend. If I'm able to work on it next weekend I should, in theory, be ready for paint the weekend after.

I got the acrylic a couple days ago. TAP Plastics only cuts to the nearest whole inch (In this case 6") if you order online so I had to trim some off. I tried scoring it with a utility knife and snapping it which worked well, but I didn't double check the measurement (I thought it was 5.5" but it was actually somewhere between that and 5.25") so I had to cut off another .25" which didn't go so well. The .25" I was cutting off snapped in a few places and turned into knives that I cut my fingers on a few times while trying to cut the rest. I tried bending the spots I needed to bend but didn't heat it up enough and ended up snapping it. Good thing I bought two. I used one of the halves of the piece I broke to figure out how hot I need to get it to bend it. I hope I get the next one right because I really don't want to buy another piece.
tl;dr: I'm a n00b.

I was hoping the parts would get here today so I could make my radiator mounts at work tomorrow but they're in Sacramento which is a few hours away from me. I probably won't get them until next week. It's probably a bad idea to form that acrylic without the radiator in there to make sure it fits, so I won't have a real update until sometime next week unless FedEx delivers my stuff early tomorrow afternoon.

Also for those who are thinking about working with acrylic, here's a helpful thread by Syrillian (which I should have read before starting instead of just skimming it):
http://www.overclock.net/t/360543/building-and-modding-with-acrylic-a-q-a

And here's my test piece:

I was glad to see this waiting for me when I stopped by my house earlier today.

From left to right: Front panel extension cables, 2.5" HDD, front panel IO, Corsair H60

The radiator mount my dad made for me

Drilled holes for the screws and attached the bracket to the door

Radiator and fan mounted

Clearance between the motherboard and the fan

Don't mount the block like I did in the photo below. It doesn't make full contact with the CPU

The correct way to do it

It was physically impossible to mount the radiator as high as I wanted on the door so the optical drive shelf thing had to go. The good news (for me) is that I'll no longer have to bend the acrylic and risk messing that up. The front panel IO is probably going to be a pain but that's low priority for me right now. I just put the hard drive in and am going to attempt to set up "fusion drive" with that and my 60GB SSD.
