[Build Log] Liquid Hexa V2.0 (new update)

Introduction

About me

My name is Bram, I'm a 21 year old student from Belgium. I speak Dutch like my neighbours to the north, the Dutch. thumb.gif I also speak English and some French so you can contact me in those 3 languages.

I'm a student so I cant spend a lot on my computer or camera. Sometimes I build or install/re-install computers for people, and every now and then I make a website or a logo for someone but that's it, no official income.

I'm studying Graphic Design at university and I'm thinking about getting a degree in photography after this. I love travelling, I've been to New York, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Namibia, Malaysia (where I climbed Mount Kinabalu, 4100m, the highest mountain of South East Asia) and India (mostly the northern part in the Himalaya, there I went up to 5600m) Its because I travel a lot that I got interested in Photography.

When I'm done with my studies I would like to move to London, New York or California to work there.
My ambition (dream) is to be a designer at a big advertising agency or to be a graphic designer/ photographer for magazine like FHM.

What will it be used for

First of, I have a MacBook Pro 17" and I LOVE IT, I know most of you wont agree but I love having a laptop with a 17" (1920x1200) screen that still has 4-8 hours of battery life depending on what I'm using it for.
I use it all the time for browsing, music, watching movies, organizing my photo's and designing (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign mostly). My gaming rig is far more powerfull that this laptop but I still feel like Adobe programs run better and more efficient on Mac OSX.
A few months ago I looked into making a hackingtosh but since my gaming rig has an AMD cpu its quit difficult.

So, lets get to the point! This rig will be used mainly for gaming (I play a lot of Black Ops 2 these days, yes yes I know Call of Duty sucks wink.gif ) some designing (Adobe programs) and I'm thinking of starting folding again.
I game on a 24" (1920x1080) screen and have another 19" (1440x900) screen for CPU-Z, GPU-Z, HW monitor,... I'm not a very demanding gamer so my CPU is still more then powerful enough and so is my GPU.

The build

About a year ago I build my first custom water cooled gaming rig (I was going to buy a Corsair H100 but after a weekend of browsing the 'OCN Water Cooling Club And Picture Gallery' I decided to go for custom WC). I got addicted to pc hardware and water cooling and decided to upgrade my rig after only a year. Since my funds are limited I decided to only upgrade case and WC loop (for now).

I wanted a full tower case for more water cooling options. The case I chose is a white NZXT Switch 810, that's all I'm going to tell for now. biggrin.gif
This will be my build log (re-build log???) and I'll try to post lots of pictures, since photography is one of my other hobbies.

The delivery guy was here with my parts this morning but I was still sleeping so I missed it. I should have them tomorrow.
I'll post pictures of the parts tomorrow but most of the 'building' will have to wait a week since I have midterms now.

Hardware

CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1090t
MOTHERBOARD: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX
GPU: MSI GTX 460 1GB GDDR5 (with Gelid Icy Vision VGA cooler)
RAM: 2x 4GB Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 1600MHz CL9
SSD: Samsung 830 120GB
HARD DRIVE: Western Digital 1TB
MONITOR: Iiyama 24" and Dell 17"
PSU: XFX PRO 550W Core Edition
CASE: NZXT Switch 810 (white)

Water cooling gear

EK Supreme LTX CPU block (plexi)
EK XT 360 radiator
EK DCP 2.2 pump
Phobya Balancer 250mm reservoir (nickel)
EK compression fittings (3/8" ID 1/2" OD)
Alphacool 45° compression fittings (3/8" ID 1/2" OD)
Masterkleer tubing (3/8" ID 1/2" OD)
Mayhems Pastel Ice White coolant
Scythe Kaze Q12 Fan Controller
3x stock EK 120mm fans (for the radiator)

Photography gear

Sony Alpha A390
Sony 18-55mm kit lens (F3.5-5.6)
Sony 75-300mm (F4.5-5.6)
Manfrotto 055XDB tripod with a Manfrotto 804RC2 'tripod head'

Future upgrades

More RAM: 2x 4GB DDR3-1600MHz CL9 Corsair Vengeance Low Profile (black) /50€
Better pump: Swiftech MCP355 /75€ (+ 20€ for pump top)
Second radiator: EK-CoolStream RAD XT 240 or XTX 240 /52€ for the XT or 77€ for the XTX
Better and more radiator fans: 10x Corsair SP120 High Performance fans /170€
GPU water cooling block: I will probably wait until I upgrade my gpu before water cooling it, its not like you find a lot of blocks for GTX 460's anyway. /80-100€
New GPU: Probably ATI since I want to overvolt when I watercool, so ATI 8950/8970 or save money and buy an 7950/7970. This is not for any time soon. /300-400€

Previous Build

Here are some pictures of my current build to keep you guys happy.

UPDATE the parts have arrived!

Here are some quick snapshots of the parts I received today thumb.gif Sorry I couldn't take any better pictures but I have midterms and therefore not much time today, I should be able to start the build in a few days after my midterms.

Revoltec Blue CCFL's, I might need 2 extra to get enough light but this is the first time i'm using kathode's and I dont know how much light they give.

Thermosensor for the loop with a blue display. Brand unknow.

2 litres of Mayhems Pastel Ice White, LOOKS AWESOME thumb.gif

2 Alphacool 45° fittings and 2 extra EK fittings (nickel) everything is 3/8 ID and 1/2 OD. Also 100 black zipties, some O-rings, some screws and a lolly pop (thank you highflow.nl)

Phobya balancer 250mm, its bigger then I expected but hey, my new case can handle it biggrin.gif

Scythe Kaze Q12 (12 channel fan controller) might try and paint this white but I have no idea how I would do those knobs so we'll see wink.gif

The key of this build, I present to you the NZXT Switch 810 in White.

More and better pics coming soon thumb.gif

Get those midterms done and then let it rip. We want pics..... I had totally forgotten how a stock switch looked like. thumb.gif
post #7 of 100
Neat but wouldn't you consider the gpu too as the triple rad will give you all the cooling you'll ever need.
Also it would look very nice to have copper polished tubes instead of white tubing (But if you wan't to stay in the same theme as your build I would recommend bending white pvc tubes)

I will add my gpu to the loop (along with another 240mm rad) but thats for after I upgrade my GTX 460, I just cant justify spending 80€ on a waterblock for this gpu.
I'm planning on buying a GTX 760ti or similar when it comes out.

I do love how bended pipe looks in a water cooling loop but I've never seen someone do it with white pvc. I look into it, I definitely like that idea! thumb.gif +REP
