Need a tablet recommendation for school

Thread Starter
I'd generally be using it for reading textbooks, orgaization/planning applications, aaand since I just got my invitation to Ingress I would like to play a few games as well.

looking for something ~$200

I was honestly about to purchase the nexus 7 but I was afraid that the 7 inch display might not be large enough.
Any college students out there have any recommendations?

edit: I don't need this RIGHT away, so if something is coming out or if word is going around that a certain price might be dropping soon, I will be willing to wait a little to get a better deal.

If you're going to be carrying it around a lot the 7 inch display (nexus 7) is something I would recommend. Plus, being a pure Google device you will have access to much more custom development that's behind the device which means you can download custom roms and other goodies that other device may not have.

right, I was planning on putting CM on the Nexus if I got it. I friend just showed me this actually:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Google-Nexus-7-Black-Wi-Fi-32GB-Tablet-PC-Free-Shipping/715884624.html

He said he's bought a few things off here, but it does seem a little sketchy. Ever heard of it?

+1 on the nexus 7. A friend of mine in school has one and loves it. Just make sure you understand that they're not full computers, it's not really possible to write papers on them and some online homework sites can be a pain. I had a Transformer Prime when it first came out and tried to use it for class, however being an engineering major I had to use large programs like matlab and had lots of complicated online homework that just didn't work well on a tablet. But for a reader, browser and light gaming machine they are great.

Too bad your budget isn't a bit more for the galaxy note 10.1, you can write on it with the s pen etc... I would say the nexus 10 but it's for school so it's much easier on the note tablet, especially with its software for the s pen, like note taking. The s pen feature is awesome and the tablet is a perfect size. If your going to get a 7" tablet though, the nexus 7 is your tablet and I love mine, and my nexus 10.

Is it possible for you to get any of the iPads?

Since you're going to be reading textbooks, orgaization/planning applications, and play a few games as well, the iPad is actually perfect.

I reckon finding a used (perhaps even refurbished) 16GB iPad 2 for $200 shouldn't be that hard. thumb.gif

Yeah, aliexpress is fine. Just make sure the seller is legitimate and the actual thing is in stock (not preorder). If you can, look for one with epacket shipping, it's quite fast. I got my Huawei Mediapad 10 FHD from there, took about a week, including customs.
The tablet size depends a lot on the individual. I think 10.1 is perfect for me for books, but my brother loves his 7 inch (books as well).

Nexus 7 is small to actually do any serious work on. I was surprised to see how much smaller a 7 inch TAB is compare to 10 inch.
