Enough or Time for Upgrade?

Just wanted to get a few opinions quick of my current set up in regards to my power supply as I recently came across an issue on my new build with my graphics card where it was narrowed down to the card being defective (RMAing tomorrow) and the PSU not being strong enough, which has led me to use a 5 yr old GPU in the mean time. Current build information is in my signature. From what I've been told I should be fine with my current PSU, although it only has 37A on the 12v rail when the card itself requires 40A.

Regardless of it being enough or not, I've been thinking of getting a newer one and getting a refund on the current one since I haven't had it for long and it should still be within the return period. Any suggestions on power supplies for this current build, with room for overclocking. Budget $40-60.

Your current PSU, aside from being excellent, is also plenty for HD 7770 CFX, never mind a single card.... also, who ever told you that the card needs 40A, is (simply put) a moron. The 7770 is a ~120W card, that translates into a 10A (12v) card. smile.gif

Thanks for your reply, I'll stick with it for now and see how things work out when I get my new card (hopefully not a more serious issue when I get a new one).

I see, well then, the box is referring to the entire system draw (40A for a system that includes that particular card). and is still massive overkill, but is there for a reason, that being the fact that many (if not most) PSUs on the consumer market are overrated (they can not output their full rated power safely, some even go up in flames at a fraction of their rating).

Ah, I see. I figured it seemed a bit much compared to what I was seeing as the requirement for other cards. Makes me feel a bit better that I'll be fine with this PSU for a bit and be able to put the money towards other things such as case fans and what not, assuming that I just got a bad card and don't have any other problems.
