JDS Labs O2+ODAC Combo or Asus Xonar Essence STX

Thread Starter
I'm planning on buying the Ultrasone PRO 550 headphones. I heard that the JDS Labs O2+ODAC Combo was a good Amp+DAC but I don't want to spend $300 when I could buy the Asus Essence STX for $200. I also know that the Asus Essence STX is a good sound card with a built in Amp but I don't know if it could drive other headphones such as the Beyerdynamic DT770 etc. as well as the JDS Labs O2+ODAC Combo.

Thank you in advance. biggrin.gif

The schiit magni and modi are 200 bucks for an amp and dac. The creators delivered top quality performance, but took out the things that are somewhat useless to most people to produce them and sell them for cheap. Some claim that it is better than the o2 dac/amp.

As for the STX, I had it, I loved it, and I can say that if you can get your hands on dedicated components, avoid it. wink.gif
