Screen Tearing in video

Thread Starter
I don't know if this is the correct place to post this, so if it's not, please move it, and I apologize.

So I have an issue with screen tearing on my second monitor when playing video. Be it YouTube, Netflix or DVD. Most of the time it's fine, but when there is a lot going on in the video I get tearing.

I have my first monitor hooked up via HDMI, and my second hooked up via VGA both to the same card. This is on my sig rig.

Open the Nvidia control panel. Under Display, look for "Adjust desktop size and position". Click your second monitor, make sure scaling mode is Aspect ratio, perform scaling on Display, "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs" is unchecked. Click the "Size" tab, make sure option 2 is unchecked.

If that cards drivers use the old control panel, do this:

Under Display and Adjust desktop size and position --> Under section 2 under "When a resolution lower than my display's native resolution..." make sure it's set to "Use NVIDIA scaling with fixed aspect ratio".

Make sure Adaptive Vsync isn't on. Just use the standard Vsync option.

Also, check the refresh rate of that monitor. Make sure it's not set to something goofy.

Make sure Flash is updated.

Make sure Windows Aero is on (This might be surprising). Change Nvidia settings to adjust for best performance.

Hopefully one of those fixed it. If not..

It's probably a Silverlight issue. http://www.silverlightversion.com/. Make sure you have the newest version.

Also.. What is your second monitor? Your card might be sending too many frames for it. I see the one in your sig but don't know if the second is something much older.

Try that, if not, we'll look further.
