That also could be the problem..an FX-geared BIOS and you're running a Deneb.I vote for either the HT link thing, too new of a BIOS,or VRMs throttling;Giga doesn't use the bestest VRMs..I watched one light up like a match head yesterday.

1.53v didn't work either, and I didn't want to juice my CPU nay more with how high the maximum Vcores were getting during extreme LLC on load.

Tried taking the multiplier approach, 240 FSB for 4080 MHz core clock, then 225 for 4050.

I'm closing up shop for now guys, gonna stick with 4.0 GHz at 2800 NB, thanks for your contributions if it means anything. I know I did Rep+ one guy.

That's a bum reading. The older chipsets had problems with software reading. My 1090t rig had 9v on 12v according to applications. I could run it at 3900 @ 1.47v & 2600 cpu-nb (stock cpu-nb voltage) on MSI K9A2 Platinum, not so thuban compatible board, without cpu-nb controls. There was a trick to raise CPU-NB speed.

Now I have 2500k with the same PSU and the reading is 12v biggrin.gif

my c3 955be needed 1.52v underload on the cpu to reach 4.1ghz, you're pumping WAY too much voltage into it in my opinion.
set your nb and ht at stock first and overclock the cpu only. this way you can test system stability based on the cpu without any other factors

once you've successfully overclocked your cpu move on to nb.

I'm not sure what the issue is really, you have a 980BE at stock is 3.7GHz.
leave everything on auto or default like it has been told to you several times now
and just hit the multi, do not add any voltage at all.
just hit the multi.

overclocking a BE or K edition CPU shouldn't take but a few good informative postings
not two or three pages or forum members wondering what the hell is going on...

and I still say you need a better mobo but that's another story...

Also, take into account that overclocking is a silicon crapshoot. There is no such thing as a guaranteed overclock. I've seen plenty of 955 through 980 chips that walled at 3.8 with no possibility of higher no matter what voltage or adjustments were made. Luck of the draw if you will...........or un-luck pending what chip you get.

^^^True. I had many of Phenom II x4 cpus and only 2 I have oc to 4.0ghz. This are the CPU I have mess with Phenom II x4 4 955, 1 960T, 2 965 , 1 970 and 1 975. Only the 970 and 960T I have got to 4.0ghz. This is with a NH-D14 cpu cooler.

in all my years I have not seen a Deneb chip C2 or C3 that can't go two clicks on the multi / auto volt....
now more than that and yes it can be a crap-shoot.
but two clicks.....

I guess I must be ignorant here even though I have had 4 overclocked Deneb C2/C3 BE units in the past..

I don't think you're ignorant at all. You've just had all positive experiences. 4 gig chips are more common than the 'duds'. wink.gif
