MSI 7950 Twin Frozr III 960MHz Default Clock - Page 3

Thread Starter
The box it came in has a "Boost Edition" Sticker on it. I don't know if I read the box or not, but I just figured they were all "Boost Editiions". Not quite clear what the difference is between Boost Edition and OC Edition. I'm guessing Marketing Speak for revision change.

I never even saw a boost edition to this card...
Wish I would have saw this thread earlier, would have saved you a ton of time smile.gif

There is a "new" Boost edition of this card. I purchased one in November, and it was the non "boost" edition (although it was on the 7970 PCB). Decided I wanted another for Crossfire two weeks ago. And the new one came with the "Boost Edition" sticker.

Default Clocks on the Boost are 960/1250, but the VDDC is higher (max in GPU-Z 1.166), as opposed to .975 on the original.

Yup i have the new version with 960mhz clock too, it has a 7970pcb which is really useful for watercooling

hey i just got the boost edition and overclocked it to 1100mhz core and 1500mhz memory without touching the voltage. idle is 30c and load in kombustion is 78c with a custom fan setting thru afterburner.

.

I'm glad it was bumped today. These are the specs I was expecting based on the Tigerdirect spec page of the card I bought from them:

What I was looking at this morning thinking WTH?

Two quick questions. One, what is the offical overclocking limit on these cards in CCC? Two, do the cards that you guys have use two six pin connectors or one six and one eight?

I thought that most boost edition cards had a 1200mhz official limit.

I guess that answers question two. thumb.gif

Mine has a limit of 1100 Core 1575 Memory, in CCC. I'm on the 7970 PCB, 6 Pin + 8 Pin power connectors. Received from Amazon, as a replacement, at the beginning of January.
