uhm didn't notice it there yet. But i surely saw some flickering mostly after the game when the scores come up sometimes it seems like smth strange flickers up. Which GPU do you own?

All this games are DX9 except Far Cry 3 and there the issue seems not related to the typical dx9 flickering.
crysis is dx10, and crysis 2 is dx11 with the patch

Correct and when running crysis in dx10 mode and crysis 2 in dx11 with the patch I was experiencing texture flashing, more so in crysis 2. Whole sections of the road would flicker in and out, it was not random either every time id reload the level/restart the game the flashing occurred in the same spots. This is after several driver sweeps/installations and 2 fresh installs of windows 7.

The green flashy lights that happen in Crysis 1 DX10 are due to the engine. They happen on all my graphics cards including the 470, the 670 & this 7950. They are small appear randomly around the trees and disappear pretty quickly. I noticed by changing the HUD color their color seem to change to that color as well.
I also don't have any image corruption in Crysis 2.

Crysis 2 artifacts probably are due to an unstable overclock. This game is very sensitive to unstable overclocks.

The Crysis 2 artifacts are not random. The textures that are effected are in the SAME exact spot every time (restarts/reinstallations). This also occurs whether my card is stock, overvolted, underclocked, overclocked etc.. It also happens to effect most textures like graffiti on walls or similar textures/images. There are 0 artifacts and errors in both furmark and OCCT after 20 minutes of testing. Highest temp was 74c and vrms were sub 90c, and while gaming load temps were under 60c.

BTW this is on my new Sapphire HD7950 boost, not the 7850 in my signature**

Is this some sort of hardware fault related to the GPU that handles DX9C separately from DX8 or DX9A/B?

I'm sure someone by your work area could at least explain it for us, and if this is something that can only be fixed in the 8000 series, then so be it...but at least throw us a bone?

BTW, someone mentioned over at guru3d that this might have something to do with Vertex shaders and RGB (there's a 4th letter, not sure which) formats and incorrect values being calculated for one frame. Another poster said that these artifacts are *exactly* what the much older video cards did when the GPU or (usually) the DDR Ram was overclocked too high. But as we already know, setting the cards as low as 250/500 does not help.

Is there any chance this could be a timing issue? like CAS or whatever latency values the video RAM Takes...wrong timings could theoretically show an issue like this. But I haven't heard of DDR Vram being timing tweakable since the X800/X1900 days...

And why wouldn't DX10/11 be affected if it WAS a timing issue?

I cannot explain exactly as I'm not a driver engineer, I'm afraid. Just a marketing guy. Suffice it to say, I think that everyone who has provided an "easy explanation" for its cause is probably incorrect. Drivers are some of the most complicated and programmatically complex software your PC runs, with thousands of dependencies in the code. The most trivial change can produce extraordinary results... even when you're certain, double damn certain, that it won't. Maybe someone has stumbled upon a nugget of truth, but I sincerely doubt that anyone has come close to the right answer, whatever that might be.

is anyone getting BSOD with these new drivers on a 7970 card ?

I got a BSOD thismorning I installed the driver yesterday, I installed windows 8 5 days ago so I am not sure what is causing it frown.gif

here is my whocrashed report just increase anyone can help me please.

Bug check description: This indicates that the kernel has detected critical kernel code or data corruption.
This might be a case of memory corruption. More often memory corruption happens because of software errors in buggy drivers, not because of faulty RAM modules.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

As I am not alleged to any company which is in this discussion I can give you some replies.

DirectX 9.0 was being developed since december 2002 till april 2008. Backward compatibility with Windows 95 was until mid 2006, while forward compatibility with Vista and later systems was most probably even not intended.

DirectX 9.0 and variant C is present on all operating systems by Microsoft including windows 95 and Windows 8, and some parts of its code has to be compatible with 16-bit aplications as well with 32bit and 64bit.. Development of DX9.0c also continues, since it became integraded part of Windows Vista/7/8 GUI.

At this time Ms was trying to sell some of its crappy code to people. WinXP was most prevalent OS so they could afford it even with Internet Explorer 6.0. DirectX 9.0c is similar in this. Standard which is not as much standard as required. For example when HDR lightning came it was supported since DX 9.0b, but many game developers implemented it with DX9.0c rather than B. That forced many people to buy newer graphics.

What AMD is now trying to do is to completely change GPU architecture. you need completely different code to run the graphics now.

Current state when the driver is not completely fixed shows two things:
a) Direct X 9.0c is crappy bunch of dll libraries
b) Game developers using DX9.0c are writing crappy code

At this point when you look at games with AMD logo (such as DeusEX) you will see not flickering even in DX 9.0 mode. When you look at games with Nvidia logo, or developers without any GPU manufacturer allegiance you will see flickering.

I can compare the situation from times of Internet Explorer 6.0 comparing to Firefox and Opera. Two minor web browser developers were criticizing MS for not following web standards. That resulted in situation when webs were speficically optimized for IE and when you tried different browser you saw a lot of glitches.
