RMA'd laptop came back with a virus - Page 11

you need to keep this going for all other asus customers, imagine if your mom had an asus, she isn't tech savy enough to think about formating the drive and 0-writing everything before shipping it out. you could help your potential hypothetical mother out here and keep pushing the issue until you get some resolution.... atleast think JUSTICE, you may not get compensation but you can atleast get the problem fixed
post #102 of 117
Atleast send the virus back to ASUS and let them have a look at it.
Tell them that the creation date was at the time it was at ASUS and maybe tell them you have had someone trying to login to your bankaccount (You should mention that your not sure if its due to all of this or not but it might get their attention)

If you're going to RMA the laptop again make sure to make a mirror of the HDD or something and let them know so if they remove anything/everything or change anything you still have the original stuff.

It was awesome of Asus to look after your concerns...oh wait. It almost seems sometimes that no tech company can get the RMA process right...it's just a battle for them to try to weasel their way out of responsibility, and only give in when it's last resort. I mean, you the created/modified date on the file proves it happened while the laptop was in their care, yet nothing about action taken to rectify the situation. I mean, would they not be concerned that this type of thing is going on in their company, or would they rather just turn a blind eye to it?

Lesson is, wipe your data before and after RMA, low-wage parts swappers probably can't be trusted with sensitive information.
Didn't someone try to get into your bank account?

It is pretty much impossible for someone to maliciously modify a BIOS in any way that would be useful to them.

so, you're just going to let this slide. fantastic idea!!!
now the person responsible has more chances to commit fraud and ruin more lives.
companies get a free pass on hiring trustworthy people and doing QA checks also.
who's to say that the person that did this to you was the only one doing such things.
good job on not pressing legal action on the company so such things will change! thumb.gif

if this were me, every news company would be contacted within moments as if i was a email spam bot, with my full story and link to a thread here.

If the tech even put the damned thing on. I bet he has an account on here. Probably even commenting in this thread! But seriously this has been a funny read.

meh, probably makes sense to tell the authorities (whoever that would be) and get on with life. Sux but this kind of BS (criminal activity + nonexistent customer support) will cause [insert giant sys integrator name of your choosing here] to go down in flames sooner or later make tons of money and buy an island.
