Outside of the few mainline ones I don't think we're going to see many next-gen. Too expensive to make for a shrinking audience especially in the US.

Luckily handhelds still seem to have them in droves.

I think you mean profit, console buyers aren't really aware of whats under the hood of their consoles, thus it won't really affect sales in any way. Basically those who like Sony will get PS4's and those who like Microsoft will get XBOX 720's.
