Do you even have any idea what BETA testing means?

Why yes I do. It ended up being the best selling PC game EVER and had a form of DRM that completely killed the, "the pirates get the best version" argument, despite teething problems.

I'm also 99% sure that his statement had nothing to do with DRM.

If a company makes a fun game people want to play, it will sell. DRM free does not make sales. Different DRM does not make sales. The average consumer doesn't give a damn about DRM in the first place.

Exactly the point, if DRM was an issue than remind me why Witcher 2 sold 1 million copies compared to 6.8 million of Diablo III.

I originally thought the way the game was tied to its DRM/cloud processing was going to absolutely suck on my internet connection, so i monitored it. The game never used more than 12KB/s Downstream and Rarely used more than that upstream (a few spikes here an there, depending on in-game activity). The game ran smooth for me, and how often are people on fiber or cable without internet these days?

I was playing the Beta with a download running on Steam. It never faced any sort of lag, even my download speed on Steam remained constant all the time i was playing SimCity.

why don't you just edit your post so that it will only be 1 post?

Played the getting started part. Finished it. Felt more like playing Anno than playing SimCity but that's just my opinion.

Graphics are horrid for a 2013 game. CitiesXL has the best graphics as far as these type of games are concerned. That's all I'm going to say about it.

PS. I understand it's a BETA and do hope that they will improve upon the graphics on final release. I also agree with the collective that 1 hour test limit is.. well, a joke smile.gif

I didn't think it was too bad. The one hour limit stinks...but you can play it multiple times so you can try out many different things...well anything that isn't beta locked. I think my biggest gripe is that the city feels really small.

The only thing I was disappointed by was the graphics. I am not a fan of the "always online" crap, but the gameplay was enough fun for me to look past it. I am a HUGE fan of SimCity and will be playing this game on day 1. Did the developers comment on the graphics at all? I pray they get a tad better in the release build of the game.

you can skip the 1 hour limit by moving your clock back by 1 hour or just 50 mins when it tells you there's only 10 mins left, accepting 1 of the little missions when the time ended will make the game resume although the big message saying the time ended will be stuck there.

I actually lost connection while playing for like 10 mins and it kept on going without any problems, the only thing that happened was that the building icons of how the building looks in the menu were missing.

it did however tell me after a while it can't connect to the servers so I must quit the game, I bet some workaround will be found by crackers when the game releases since the game doesn't instantly disconnect like D3 but tries to reconnect while you play and with only icons missing I'm sure you could download those somehow and save them.

60$ is quite high really and the origin store doesn't even let me buy it in $ which makes it even more expensive for me in EUR, the only sites that have it under 50$ seem to be out of stock :/.

Best Selling PC game ever? Nah, I'm pretty sure The Sims, Diablo II, Half-Life 2 and Starcraft have sold more.

You're right it wasn't, my bad.

The Diablo 3 DRM debacle meant it was only the fastest selling pc game in history, with the largest pc game launch, ever.

As I said, if people want to play a game, they will buy the game. Period.

DRM free isn't a sales creator.

Different DRM isn't a sales creator.

You won't hear a salesman recommend a game based on its DRM. Not even a gaming site would do that. Nobody relevant, actually cares.

The general public (aka the people who make the vast majority of game sales) don't give a damn about DRM.

Even with the hurricane of bad press Origin got at launch, Battlefield 3 still managed to be the most successful Battlefield in terms of sales. The next will probably be even bigger.

Just as the general public doesn't care about temps, overclocking or "must be 60 fps!" like our community tends to, they also don't care about DRM like our community tends to.
