Really? I find my MX Blacks don't feel like a membrane...they are much smoother and more consistent.

You don't really know anything about keyboard switches do you?

Black switches are linear, high resistance switches. While you are correct that they have no click, this has absolutely nothing to do with gaming, ease of transition, your mysterious "click lag", or similarity to membranes.

Unlike membranes, they:
1) Have a consistent resistance across the entire spectrum of depressing the switch
2) Activate at roughly half depression (as opposed to full depression)
3) Bottom out hard
4) Have absolutely no tactile or audible feedback to indicate the activation of the switch
5) Require significantly more force to depress

Which, as it turns out, actually makes them harder to adjust to compared to scissors, cherry browns or topre switches (or for that matter, most other mechanical or semi-mechanical switches as well, including cherry reds even).

Furthermore there is no such thing as "click lag". The switch activities when you reach the activation point. It is as simple as that. If your finger is really so weak that overcoming the increased resistance at the clicking point is going to stall your actions, you have bigger things to worry about than which keyboard you use for gaming.

hope this helps smile.gif

Cherry MX switches have always had a spot reserved for a 3mm LED backlight. This is nothing new, and was certainly not unveiled at CES 2013. What you saw was a particular keyboard that has LED Backlit cherry MX switches. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

actually the click is a...

distraction
your brain inputs the click because your senses feel it
blacks are effortless and very similar to a membrane feel
clicks require extra pressure to follow through
your fingers are lagged with clicks because you cant move side to side in an fps as easily as blacks
i know someone at steelseries and they brought all their teams together and tested all the switches, blacks were chosen by a landslide for gaming for obvious reasons

im only posting an educating opinion to the OP that obvious needs to weigh all the pros and cons before he makes a choice why do you tell an ACTUAL professional gamer he doesnt know what hes talking about?

Professional gamers eh? You know "professional gamers" are just people who get paid by gaming companies to publicly endorse products for advertisements right?

Go watch an actual competition and you'll see people using microsoft intellemouse, not steelseries garbage. So much for that.

I have to agree with Zero, WTH are you talking about?
Rubber domes feel like this: they really don't do much until you reach a certain amount of force and then they collapse until they bottom out and register the key press... how is that anything like a lineair switch like the blacks?
If anything, the blue and brown would be closer to the feel of a membrane if you bottom them out. That is if you completely ignore the fact that they register halfway, at the point where they lose the resistance (which feels a bit like the point on a rubber dome where the key would start to go down and register at the bottom)... so yea, they aren't comparable either, but in terms of feel I suppose they are at least closer than the blacks. (Yes I tried blacks once, didn't like, I use browns daily and my brother has reds, and I also regularly use rubber domes ... obviously)

Anyways, thanks for the good read Zero, might be something for the mechanical keyboard guide? Or perhaps too Microsoft-tinted redface.gif

Wow. I did not think that asking if any keyboards met all my criteria would spring into this big of a debate. Some good info, and some bad info here. I think only one or two people actually recommended a keyboard!

I know that my g15 does not support nkro or anything close whether its ps2, or USB.

I ended up going with a quick fire tk. It should be in in a day or two. I literally stood in a store for an hour and a half testing all the mechanical boards with different switches. I was torn between blue, brown, and red. Went red to reduce noise and start with a happy medium.

If I enjoy the switch thoroughly, down the road I may look into a ducky shine 2, that's the only expensive mech board that sort of caught my eye. For 80$ the TK should be a solid starting point I hope.

Sure, very decent choice! I still my like Storm Trigger though, because of build quality and the rubberized surface. (And the wrist wrest!) thumb.gif Welcome to the mechnical club, mate.

Thanks. They are from the same company so build quality should be just as good. The wrist rest may be the biggest thing I miss coming out of my g15. Do they make a small one for the tk?

Does your model have macro keys? And no, I have not heard of a wrist wrest for that keyboard. frown.gif Maybe you should have gotten the $70 Storm Trigger with black switches! (Although, you would not have had chances to test the keyboards in person before buying.)
