[barefeats] DOES IT RUN HOT AND NOISY? The 2012 iMac Core i7 Stress Testing - Page 2

post #11 of 340
Temps are in Fahrenheit not Celsius.

Why? Couldn't tell ya....

99F = 37.22 celcius

200F = 93.3333 celcius

hot, but not as bad as it sounds.....

It's more aesthetically pleasing, which is a big selling point for Apple. It's the same reason all monitors/TV's are getting thinner with less and less bezel.

Right. But most people will argue against it as they see cutting the power strongly for ascetics is dumb. I am one of them.

Heh, don't know many people that stare at the thickness on the side of the monitor. Something you would never see when looking at it, whether it be 1/2 inch think or 10 inches thick. I'll take a thicker, cooling ran part please. After all, with the price of these things, don't they want to (as customers) ensure their VERY expensive products last? Then again, most people buying these really don't know anything in regards to tech anyways...

37C - 99C doesn't seem that bad for how much is in such a small machine. Hell, my XFR goes up to mid 80's if pushed with stress tests, and it's much thicker with actual fans.

It's not about staring at the side. If you have a common 30" deep desk, do you want your monitor/computer taking up 1/2 or more of that. I'd rather keep the desk clean and have it wallmounted and still not be sitting right in my face.

It's not a gaming platform, I know that's hard for people to grasp on OCN. It has more than enough power for the people who are interested in an all-in-one.

Secondly, you're not going to overclock this so as long as the parts are in spec what does it matter? Not to mention, everything is warrantied.

Maybe I'm too used to ultrathin notebooks. I didn't bat an eye at the temperatures...

First, to reiterate, Fahrenheit? Wat?

Second, Apple has historically been quite lenient with letting the silicon in their products get into the 90s C. Unless Intel/Nvidia/AMD has been giving Apple extra-heat-resistant chips (I doubt it), and unless there's been a mass hardware failure epidemic I've missed, I've long ago assumed that temperature-obsessed hardware enthusiasts were just oddly conservative.

If 97C isn't hot, I don't know what is.

And the CPU is a desktop part.

Macintosh is such a joke seeing it from a technical standpoint it is ridiculously hilarious.

You're so right, I can'T believe these idiots at Apple can't fit something like your 7950 Windforce with 3 giant fans into THIS:

There's a significant taper. It's actually nowhere near that thin.

They'd be far better off making the whole thing as thick as its thickest point, seeing that functionally there would be no difference, and fitting better cooling and hardware in there. But then they can't brag that it's 5mm thick at the edges and wow idiots.

You hit the nail on the head with that, at least for a good majority.
