You now want to compare a brand new iMac to 2 year old rigs?

They are still less powerful than the highest spec iMac. Which is what he originally said. He never mentioned anything about the price.

No, I'm not making a direct comparison, I am saying (and so is Foolsmasher) the iMac is more powerful than a majority of rigs on OCN.

It's not exactly a difficult concept to grasp.

LOL - this article is about the 27-inch 'late 2012' iMac with Core i7 CPU and the 680MX GPU which costs $2350!

What does that mean? You have to go out and buy it.

For the same money TODAY, you can get a much more powerful rig.

Do I need to do a Steve Jobs style presentation and explain it to you in simpleton terms?

Why be concerned with temperature at all?

If you overclock, or just want cool running parts that are definitely not going to die from heat...Also, in a real world scenario dust can cause temperatures to skyrocket on the best of coolers, however most people here are complaining because it's Apple.

Just think, this iMac is more powerful than the majority of rigs you see here on OCN since it has the graphical prowess of a 580.

But for $2200, people can build much more powerful rigs.

That's great, but the iMac is already over-specced for 99% of the population who would prefer the lack of space taken by the PC and the general design, plus *nix is better than Windows/DOS/CPM any day.

He's comparing the iMac to the majority of rigs here. so yea, we know how to build rigs, and for $2200, we can build a much more powerful rig than a $2200 iMac.

3930K + 680 for starters.

That has to include all peripherals, too...27" 1440p display, keyboard, mouse, etc. Apple aren't as overpriced as everyone says, they tend to be a bit more at first and then just don't lower prices which is why you're best to buy around refresh time.

He didn't say "it's more powerful than anything anyone on here can make if they had $2,200." He said it's more powerful than a majority of rigs that people on OCN own. Most rigs I have seen on OCN have a 2500K + 570.

They also don't cost $2200! doh.gif

Buying TODAY, $2200 goes a lot further than this iMac.

Lets put it this way: A 2010 Lamborghini is going to beat one from 1990, (Time exaggerated because the technology market moves a lot faster) even if the cost is greater...He's asking why people are complaining about it "being so slow" then their computers are barely any faster, if not slower or equal in speed.

Want to compare your rig to mine? rolleyes.gif

How long ago did I build my rig?

Hint: it wasn't late 2012, and it didn't cost $2350 3 YEARS ago.

Wouldn't it be common sense to compare my 2010 rig to a 2010 iMac with an i7-870 + Radeon 5750?

Nope, it makes much more sense to compare a late 2012 model with a 3rd gen CPU to a 3 year old rig with a 1st Gen CPU. rolleyes.gif

If you seriously want to go down the path of comparing my rig to an iMac...

Let's compare a 2010 iMac buyer to myself, we both want to upgrade to Ivy Bridge. Taking reselling out of the equation.

All I have to do is buy a 3770K and Motherboard, and maybe 8GB RAM for kicks.

What does the 2010 iMac guy have to do? Buy a whole new iMac, and spend $2200+ all over again. GG.

Given the choice of buying a $2350 iMac TODAY, I'd much rather spend that money on a much more powerful 3930K + 680 + SSD instead. THAT was my original point.

I would guess my 2 year old rig is still quicker than that Mac plus when Haswell/IB-E appears along with GTX 7XX series cards, I'll upgrade at around 1/3 the price.

It's gonna cost you $2350 again to upgrade at that point

A 3rd gen CPU is more powerful than the 1st Gen? I'm shocked.

Apple lovers really are geniuses.

I'm not comparing my rig to yours. I'm comparing the POWER not price or year it was made of the iMac to yours.

And who said I was an "Apple lover"? I hate a majority of their products. The only ones I like are the iPhone 5 and 15" rMBP.

Depends on who you ask really, X58 was around an average of 1900 AUD with only a high end, Not ultra high end gpu, IE using a GTX 280 not say a 295

hmmm, aren't we talking about MY rig? I don't live in Australia, so I can't relate to your comparison once again.

Anyway, I'm done here. the intellect level here sure is lacking.
