[Engadget] PSA: Windows 8 and Pro upgrades will jump to $120 and $200 on February 1st - Page 11

I'm amazed that people are still hung up on the start menu. Admittedly, 8 initially took some getting used to but once configured, operates no different from 7 for me. Everything is pinned and short cuts are there the same as my 7 install except that I get all the tweaks and benefits of 8. I see Metro maybe 30 seconds a day if I see it at all.

I very much doubt Microsoft are going to back track with Win 9.

I can't believe that people are still unable to realize that UIs are subjective things, and that what works for some people won't for others...bar generic UIs. I've tried 8 extensively and even bought it (Hey, it was only $15!) along with Server 2012 which I got for free from Dreamspark, I still hate the UI.

IMO, MS should have made the Start Screen something you can access but disable as the main start menu, it's kinda useful in some ways but not in the same ways that a start menu is.

I tried 8 for a few days on my fathers new laptop, hated it. If you like it, great, all the power to you. For the rest, Metro is completely inadequate and inappropriate as a desktop OS.

Who the hell pays for this garbage operating system?

Well I did. And its the worst OS I have ever tried. Big EPIC fail from Microsoft. Windows 7 is much better.
Well I was planning on upgrading to Win8 later on but not a chance for that price. Sorry I bought both Vista and Win7 for under $100 combined well over a year after both had been launched. Sorry Microsoft that is a ludicrous price.

im thinking MS is running the baby boomer train. Think about it really, millions upon millions of peeps (every year for the next many years) eyes all getting old and failing with age. Navigating a keyboard and mouse plus looking up from the keyboard to screen and back down again. This is going to become difficult for them but MS is offering a OS which allows those getting on in years the ability to just look at giant tiles and press the screen with a unsteady finger. The OS is meant for a touch screen, it can be worked without but the touch screen really makes the OS easy to use. What choice does MS have, baby boomers want/need the baby boomers get tongue.gif My rant/tinfoil hat....
