I tried a windows 8 computer setup at best buy a week ago. All I did was hit Windows key + E and it took me straight from metro into the classic desktop ui in less than 5 secs. I don't see why the hate?

^Because it is ugly and a disgrace for all the great minimalist artists/designers like Carl Andre?

Either way, I see the approach of Ballmer's trying to follow Apple instead of actually trying to innovate for all those people that use Windows for work purposes and that saddens me. One simple solution that linux has is virtual desktops, simple as that. Microsoft has not done anything beneficial since W98. At least this is how I feel...

It amuses me that you speak of innovation when Windows 8 has headlined a slew of innovation and boundary pushing from OEMs to chip manufacturers.

We've seen more form factors, design experimentation and less laziness in general from OEMs since last October than we've seen in ten years.


Some of the designs might be raw or need refining, but this is literally the start and they are only going to get better at designing and making these things. Especially as the whole component making industry keeps getting more efficient at designing mobile parts.
