Either way, I see the approach of Ballmer's trying to follow Apple instead of actually trying to innovate for all those people that use Windows for work purposes and that saddens me. One simple solution that linux has is virtual desktops, simple as that. Microsoft has not done anything beneficial since W98. At least this is how I feel...
I'd love it if virtual desktops were an official part of Windows.

I used to use Blackbox for Windows a lot, but it always bothered me how certain programs didn't look quite right and match the Black Box theme, so now I stick to a rather plain Windows 7 basic theme.

Because Metro is designed as a touch interface, and removing the Start menu was completely unnecessary. They could have atleast made it optional.

There is a platform update bring DX 11.1 to Windows 7. In fact it's in beta right now.

Not all of it, just the important features iirc.

Pin applications to your start menu? Use jump lists? Yeah.

The desktop isn't the only part of Windows 7, you know...The normal start menu is easier to use for most of the tasks I use while Metro is good for others. (ie. I'd like to have my email, weather and a few other things on the Metro screen, but a normal start menu)

It's not like Samsung allegedly copying Apple's products, just the actual idea was pioneered by Apple.

It's just like the original GUI. Microsoft copied Apple, which copied Xerox. Wasn't Steve Jobs the one who said, "good artists copy, great artists steal," ?

It was Steve Jobs quoting Picasso and wasn't referring to physical products but the ideas, inspiration, etc. that went into painting.

I'm loving Windows 8 personally. Runs great, boots fast, and works awesome.

I spent the lats 2 days trying to get Linux to run on my second hard drive and, after trying multiple distros (openSUSE, Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Pear OS) I still couldn't get a working install. People rave about Linux and I even ran Mint as me desktop OS for a few years but that is ridiculous. I have mainstream hardware that isn't bleeding edge and the top distros still won't work. Why would I even consider using it if I can't depend on it? Ever since Vista I haven't had a single software issue with my PC.

I agree Bill Gate's way of saying it, “Well, Steve, I think there’s more than one way of looking at it. I think it’s more like we both had this rich neighbor named Xerox and I broke into his house to steal the TV set and found out that you had already stolen it.”

^^ haha
I dont see why everyone dislikes it so much. At first i needed to get used to it. Then i found out about pokki , start 8, classic shell and its game for me. And all the added features is a bonus. For 15 $ even 40 $ for a legit good working mainstream OS. I dont see why not. I just bought another copy. That makes 3 windows 8 keys for me!!
