Your source? Better warn them because MS seems to think otherwise. After all, did MS go back to doing things the "XP way" after everyone revolted against Vista? No, they just made Vista less buggy, got the OEM and hardware makers to finally get with the program and called their new service pack Win7...and everyone applauded. So long as people continue to use Windows it will not change. You're not telling them anything by that course of action other than "we like what you're doing".

Glad I've gotten a couple of licenses at the $40 price. As much as I enjoy Win8 I'd never pay this much for it considering Win7 is still so good. I really don't understand why MS didn't stick with 7 for a few more years...

Revenue stream. If they don't have a new product then what is their revenue stream?

sorry to break it to you but most phones aren't ubuntu based lol

steam is predominately used on the windows platform, and i would hardly say that ubuntu is the primary platform for netflix viewing lol

I don't think Windows 8 will be dead. They are pushing Windows 8 sales right at this moment with the media. So everyone will be in rush to BUY IT NOW before it costs $200+. MS knows that retail copy aren't that profitable as OEM. This strategy is to push the last straw for retail copies.

Newer consumer will already have Windows 8 paid with their brand spanking new computer from HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, you name it OEM PC manufacturer.

Actually they went back to xp with windows 7. But I will argue that vista was not that far out of the cycle anyway. Windows 8, really is not windows.

Microsoft fired the only person that really pushed for the removal of the start menu. He had to bully the idea through the system and with him gone, there is no reason for them to bring it back.

Microsoft has sold 60 million copies of windows 8 to oem suppliers, retail store, and end users. But apps to return back the start menu, like pokki are insanely popular. In fact, pokki has been installed in more then 1.5 million windows 8 machines. When 1 in 60 of your total sales says you got it wrong, it is time to fix it.

Perhaps it's a ruse to spike sales because people think the price is going to go up?

Windows 8 isn't going anywhere. It hasn't even caught on yet but it will. It just takes a while. I have a Dell Latitude 10 tablet with Windows 8 and it's frikin great! They are only going to get better. It's awesome on a proper tablet. I have also have gotten used to it on my main and HTPC. It does load faster overall for sure and I hear you definitely want it if you have the latest AMD FX processor.

If you look at Microsoft's history, you'll soon see that they release a brand new OS ever 3 years. It was only that vista took longer than what microsoft had intended. If I remember correctly, xp was released in 2001 and vista was released in 2007.
