[EuroGamer]Playstation 4 specifications unmasked - Page 17

So the PS4's gpu is like a 7970m which is like a 6970.... IMO that's pretty good for a console:)

That is a huge performance increase from ps3 considering the 6970 is still a very capable card in the PC.

I have a gtx 570 which equals to 6970 and I am very happy with it. I don't need to upgrade for another year or more.

Honestly I don't really believe it will have 6970 performance card :\

Yeah no way a 4870 runs BF3 worse then a console. Hell I have seen a 8800 GTX put out similar performance to a console running 720p and low/mid settings. On a 4870 you should be running mid settings @ 1080p with decent 45 ish FPS.

Trow a 4870x2 in the machine and you should have pretty solid 60 FPS and perhaps even trow some high settings in the mix.

Well the x1950's were the strongest DX9 cards... In CF they were still faster then a 8800ultra iirc.
Still even I was rather impressed, Tried Crysis 2 on my brothers old PC (q6600 + 8800gt) and it really wasnt much better then in that video. Though crysis 2 is still a good deal smoother on consoles, same goes for games like BF3. Depends on the Game more then anything.

Though I don't think a single 4870 1gb would do much better at 720p in the smoothness factor. Largely a BF3 problem if anything, game scales down like crap IMO, Crysis 2 was the same way. Those Console focused engines just make things worse.

My 4890 had no issues holding at least 30FPS in BF3 1680x1050 all high some Ultra settings. Even did this on my 980 BE in my SIG. And 8800GTX was a massive leap in performance but not 4 times 7950GX2, c'mon. It was roughly 7800GTX 256MB x 2.5 or 7800 GTX 512MB x 2.

We can all agree that console hardware vs PC hardware can be Anything but directly compared. We merely get a rough idea of performance and/or longevity.

Wasnt saying it wasnt playable, just not smooth at all. With the x2 he gets around 40-60fps at mostly high settings, but after microstutter and frame drops and other performance slowdowns it can feel like 20fps during heavy battle. Some maps can be really hard to play, a single card would run smoother, but even while running with CF off I wouldnt say it was a better experience then on a console. I have played BF3 on both the 360 and ps3 and they give a pretty decent solid framerate for the most part. 4870 can be to inconsistent in frames as well compared to newer cards, Most other games will be fine.

My limit for the next gen is $450. If these spec are true we should get some good games. My only dilemma is which one to get.

God of War on that machine would be generation defining in my opinion. Its amazing what they did the ps3.

Wait? a 7970M and only 4GB of RAM? RAM is dirt cheap, bump it to atleast 8GB, seeing that consoles have huge life spans
These rumors are always very inconsistent, why not make one that is atleast sound likely plausible

By and large, RAM is RAM; if you don't have enough, you don't have enough.

The article implies that 4GiB is the total amount of memory in the system, shared for both main memory and VRAM.

Yes, it's GDDR5, for performance (you need a lot of bandwidth to support a decent GPU), and yes, GDDR5 is expensive, so doubling the amount would not be trivial. Personally, I think 4GiB shared will be enough, but I can see why some people would be concerned. However, the fact that it's GDDR and not DDR is neither here nor there in this regard.
