The difference between console and PC platform development and end result is staggering. 4GB of RAM for a console system is mind blowing.
Yeah but to get I't to run on just on 500Mb a lot of stuff has to be cut out. Unlike GPU power that to some extent can do more wit less on a console thanks to less overhead there is no such thing when it comes to memory. If a texture needs 10MB it need 10Mb end of story. Don't have enough space for that size of a texture, then its resolution needs to be dropped or the compression increased. Either way the quality suffers.
On PC maxed Crysis will take about 1.3-1.5GB of vram and a something in the 1-2GB range of system memory, and Crysis is and pretty old game by now and the texture resolution is not that high.
And while PS3 players like to bring up Uncharted its really not that good looking. Yes it pretty for a console game but it still has to work with the limitations of the hardware and it does show, and before you or anyone else links me a picture to show how awesome the Uncharted 2/3 graphics are, cut scenes don't count. Thous are pre-render at a quality level the PS3 it self is not capable off.
