4GB is fine IMO.

Glad someone else realizes this

Very, very interesting read. I'll wait and see if that turns out to be true though. If it is though it'll leave the new Xbox seriously hurting.

you do know games like Uncharted and even Crysis 1/2 (although the former is still arguably prettier than Crysis1/2 on Medium-High) with only 500MB combined RAM/VRAM?

The difference between console and PC platform development and end result is staggering. 4GB of RAM for a console system is mind blowing.

Yeah but to get I't to run on just on 500Mb a lot of stuff has to be cut out. Unlike GPU power that to some extent can do more wit less on a console thanks to less overhead there is no such thing when it comes to memory. If a texture needs 10MB it need 10Mb end of story. Don't have enough space for that size of a texture, then its resolution needs to be dropped or the compression increased. Either way the quality suffers.

On PC maxed Crysis will take about 1.3-1.5GB of vram and a something in the 1-2GB range of system memory, and Crysis is and pretty old game by now and the texture resolution is not that high.

And while PS3 players like to bring up Uncharted its really not that good looking. Yes it pretty for a console game but it still has to work with the limitations of the hardware and it does show, and before you or anyone else links me a picture to show how awesome the Uncharted 2/3 graphics are, cut scenes don't count. Thous are pre-render at a quality level the PS3 it self is not capable off.

You guys are ignoring that out of the 8GB in the 720, only 4-5GBs will be available. It said so in the 720 article. The rest are used up by the bloatware OS.

Meanwhile, a Linux OS that the PS4 will have will require minimum RAM. My laptop boots up using Arch Linux, with a full UI (DM) with just 50MBs of ram occupied and the OS is ready to be used. Windows 7? 2.4GBs.

Even if its true that the OS will take up a that much space the ram is still there and the OS can be shrunk down/optimized after launch the same way the PS3's OS was cut down form 120MB to 50MB.

For all of those who keep saying that best specs win and that the wii u will be forgotten, you have to remember, games sell the consoles, not the hardware.

Just look at the vita and those who went all out because of the promising specs. The lack of AAA titles on the vita is what makes the platform so bad.

Also, the wii u just announced new Zelda's and a new super smash brothers that will no doubt spread the console's popularity. In my opinion the wii u is far from dead.

OT I still have no clue what the AMD 10xx GPU is. Anyone care to elaborate?

Linux/Windows debate has no purpose here, TBH. And your ram used statement is mindless fanboy drivel, as I run on a 2GB stick, and have about 10-15% used on idle. If your Windows uses that much, you have no idea what you are doing.

As long as it can play my current PS3 games, I am not going to cry about the specs. They need good games and more features. I just wonder if they will have games with motion control...

They should put in 8GB of GDDR5 memory if they want to survive with PS4 for at least another 5 - 7 years.
