I don't get what you mean? Is that still not selling at a loss?

Seems to really be pushing the multi-core design as opposed to high IPC single threaded design. Hopefully a lot of good comes out of this if the specs are real.

This would probably make a huge break for AMD chips too since most designs are going to be pushed towards their arch.

At launch it costed Microsoft $310 to make a 360 that they were selling for $299.

Microsoft was honest or clear about how much they were making or losing.

Other places and sites put it much higher, one site even claimed $700+ to build 360 at launch.

And all you did as noted above was prove my point

Question.... Does that make sense to you? Does an xbox 360 which had nothing revolution cost $700+ to make, makes sense to you?

Microsoft said they were making a very small profit. How true it is I don't know....

I stated that 360 was sold at a loss to begin with, which it was unlike what bencher claimed, and can you please explain what I said was misinformation? Because I would really like you to prove it.

So please but out of conversations that don't concern you.

Most of the posts I have seen you post are mostly bull. Thats why I said it.

Meanwhile, a Linux OS that the PS4 will have will require minimum RAM. My laptop boots up using Arch Linux, with a full UI (DM) with just 50MBs of ram occupied and the OS is ready to be used. Windows 7? 2.4GBs.

It'll be a custom kernel, much like the current Xbox 360 uses a custom NT kernel that's only 32MB large... PS3's main OS required almost twice as much RAM to load. Like someone stated, the whole Windows vs. Linux resource requirements have no basis here or even in the real world as at its core, Windows isn't much larger than Linux is.

MS was selling Xbox's at at loss at launch. Market research firm isuppli.com did the research and the report. Businessweek and many other outlets reported it at the time.

MS Loss per Xbox 360 approx. $71 just for the console itself.

including the power supply, cables, and controllers -- add another $55 to Microsoft's cost, pushing the loss per unit to $126.

You might be right, the loss lasted less than a year though.

Oh no doubt. As soon as they ramped up production and started really pumping these things out; once they saw what the demand was, the price of manufacture dropped, but that first year, most of these companies, save Nintendo maybe, don't care about taking a loss that first year or two. Hardware is such a small margin business to begin with. Licensing and software is where they make their money.
