This gen? It is on x86. so the optimization gap will be narrower. I think you only need to look after ur RAM + VRAM and ur GPU. a 2yrs old 2500K will run anything these console port games throw at it.
Heck I even think 6GB GTX TiTan will hold itself pretty well on any console port games like 8800GTX did on PS3.
x86 yes, but a custom chip so no API's.
On the other hand, they will be even more efficient than before
, because devs already know how to code in x86. They are still coding for only one platform.......so that means accelerated dev time.
And beaten by what? The 8800gtx is twice as fast as the RSX, more than twice as fast. The PS3 had a graphics chip from early 2005. Your comparing a massively more powerful chip. The G80 was a game changer.
A PC will always be worse off than a console due to programming API's. The upside is that you can spend an exhoribtant amount of money on more powerful parts to make games look far better than the PS4 will be capable. But at that point.
I can spend $400ish on a nice gaming machine, or I can spend $1000 for a mid grade PC, well over $2000 for a high end PC. Oh and the "well the PC does more than just games" argument is total BS= I can buy a $100 machine from micro center running a core 2 that will do "everything else"
. You are paying those obscene amounts of money for better gaming fidelity, nothing else. Oh, if you use it for work? Nvidia and AMD will shaft you with pro cards that easily eclipse 1k per card and CPU's that bust the $900 mark.
The PC's strength is it's open endedness. You simply cannot compare it with a console.
Only a Luddite will sneer at a console. A significant amount of power for only $400? What's not to like?
I was looking to buy Crysis 3 for my system. As a benchmark, nothing else. Banchmarking is fun. My gtx 670 is going to die a smoking death running Crysis 3 on my 2560 x 1600p monitors.
The PS4? At the reveal, im already looking into what cool games to play so I can be entertained. I don't care if x component is too slow, I care about the games. My steam library is massive. I still rather play my PS3. Sometimes you don't want to deal with settings and crashes and all that other crap.
Since there is so many unhinged people out there on this forum, let me throw this out.
Mobile technology is accelerating far faster than desktop tech. For every dollar spent on desktop innovation, $20 is spent on mobile hardware. Where do you think this is going to end up?
MY PC IS FASTER LOL
Who the hell cares. Our machines are getting kicked around by smaller, tech, better innovation. Phones are nearing the 2GHZ mark, has discrete graphics already eating at the bottom of integrated gpu's, screens with far more PPI, mobile platforms that get updated by the day, not by the month. Only a fool will say that such devices are inferior in all aspects to a "desktop"
In short, people should appreciate consoles, instead of lambasting them.
