If Jaguar is 50% better than brazos, this will still be slower than something like a Trinity/Richland Kaveri APU. Multi threaded programming is hard, and some workloads just need a strong single core... that isn't possible with a 1.6ghz Jaguar CPU.

We don't even know the full details it could have a turbo core for all we know, and run up to 2.5-2.8 on a single or double

If this is true, Which I will take it as a grain of salt. Thats means with both rumors mean that both xbox and sony are going AMD/ATI. So sony is switching sides. This will keep AMD going smile.gif Thats great to hear! Thank god to AMDs Recently new CEO smile.gifthumb.gif

My only hope is that both systems will be able to fold!

Wonder if MS will go with a windows based OS for the xbox.

In terms of silicon costs and power envelope, this actually sounds about right.

I still don't believe it, but someone sure did their homework while making stuff up.

True, but it seems unlikely. Turbo core is nice in a laptop/desktop/server where workloads can be "bursty", and consistent performance isn't a must.

But in a console, performance inconsistency is unacceptable. Programmers squeeze every last bit of performance out of consoles, eg. they design games so that the Xbox 360 is just barely powerful enough to run it consistently at 30FPS all the time. Game devs can't rely on a core that will boost itself 50% whenever it feels like it, and a dusty console running in a hi temp environment may never get the chance to do so.

Now, if devs can force 2 cores to boost themselves while shutting others down though software commands, that's entirely possible.

Then again, we really don't know what the PS4 will actually use.

Yeah... I doubt that. It may be a custom part but it's still Jaguar, which is targeted for clocks under 2GHz (10% higher than bobcat, which was 1.6-1.8Ghz).

I think it's hilarious that people think the other next gen consoles are going to be infinitely more powerful than the Wii U.

Seriously? Are you forgetting about cost? Not everyone is able to shell out $1500 for a hardc0re l33t g@ming r1g complete with 700mm blue LED fans, so what makes you think that the average consumer will be willing to pay anything over $400 for a console? Especially since games still cost $60, and used games are now becoming unsupported.

I'm sure you'd all love for the PS4 to have 32gb of ram, a 7970, and a 1tb SSD for the price of a nice dinner, but it's not happening. The Xbox 720 and PS4 will be nearly equal to the Wii U.

thanks for the laughs, the wii-u at 299 a pretty BIG chunk of that is that tablet controller and nintendo are basicly trying to break even on the hardware from day one, where as MS and Sony are willing to lose a few bucks on the hardware, 720&ps4 or whatever they get named will EASILY be 4x or more powerfull then a wii-u thumb.gif

But they will be much more powerful than the wii U.

always want games that look better and new consoles do just that.
