with extra voltage if the card is a good overclocker you can keep it. if it can run at 1150 - 1200 mhz with voltage increase then its worth keeping. a card which can't run the out of the box speeds is unacceptable. but its your choice.

I have 2 7870 that wont run the gigabyte factory oc of 1100mhz core without the voltage +20 slider at full, but they also run 1150core 1450 vram at the same power so I don't rma/complain

thats a power slider and not voltage. it means your core clocks are throttling at normal board power and you require to max the board power to run at 1100 mhz. thats different from having to increase voltage to run at 1100 mhz.

i spoke to XFX and they sorted it out. the warranty and support was amazing and only took 1 week to get it tested and replaced. this was all sorted months ago

im posting because i found this thread when double checking if my PCB is reference for waterblock: (i hope im allowed to link external forums)
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?282682-XFX-7970-Black-Edition-DD-New-PCB-Released

i had a custom PCB on my XFX card with 2 DVI ports and experienced the exact same problems as this guy
this is the image of the card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150586

it turns out XFX made a custom PCB which was could handle benchmarks but not games which is what we both experienced in this forum and in the one i linked
this should clear things up. if they still make these STICK WITH REFERENCE PCB

my card was also bought on amazon and im pretty sure the image was of reference PCB to so they infact shipped something different to the image :/
