Quality 70mm fan for MSI Twin Frozr II? - Page 2

As a follow up, I put the Accelero Twin Turbo II on my 6950 Twin Frozr tonight. Amazing upgrade. I can't hear it even at 100%, and temps are around 60 degrees at load overclocked to 960 MHz. Best part was installation on the Twin Frozr was extremely easy. The Twin Frozr has a nice heatsink on the ram and other parts already. Didn't bother with the heatsinks that came with the Accelero Twin Turbo II or the thermal glue or the 5-10 hour cure time. Just took the old cooler off, cleaned up the GPU, and put the new one on. Took maybe 15-20 minutes.

Highly recommended.

The best fans would be the Cooljag Everflow's:
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/5876/fan-291/Cooljag_Everflow_70mm_x_15mm_PWM_Fan_R127015BU.html?tl=g36c15s604&id=EE5rQe2Y

Or non-PWM one:

EDIT: I think the card needs 75x10mm fans, those like on the next post.

I had a Twin Frozr II 580 and one of the fan crapped out. It is extremely difficult to find the replacement fans that actually fit.

In response to the post above me. I tried 3 different set like that and none of the holes lined up on the Twin Frozr.

I ended up grabbing a Arctic cooler for the 580 and I can tell you I couldn't have been more pleased!
It dropped my temps by 10c under load and Idle. It's almost completely silent thumb.gif

That's good to know -- thanks for the heads-up.

Which Arctic cooler did you get? I've got two in a second PC here that are going to need to be dealt with sometime soon.

The Accelero Xtreme is a bit overkill for a HD 6950, imo. That product line is typically used to cool heavily overclocked power-hungry cards. (think 7970/GTX 580)
The basic design will certainly fit the 6950, since the acellero 5870 is just a modified version of the Acellero Extreme. However, i kind of doubt that the mounting hardware will be compatible to the 6950. You may need to get a different set of mounting plates, which might not be easily available.

Considering that the Twin Turbo handily beats pretty much every factory cooler on a gtx 680, it should be plenty for a 6950. I would go for that one, if only because it is compatible with pretty much every card on the market, from a lowly HD 4830 all the way up to a GTX 680.

Thread Starter

I put the Twin Turbo II on my 6950 a few days ago, it doesn't go above 62C in MSI Kombustor. biggrin.gif

Unfortunately I can't overclock my card, I can't even go to 850, even after changing the core voltage from 1.112v to 1.2v. I get driver crashes, lockups, and artifacts if I overclock past 840.

I doubt it's my power supply because in MSI Kombustor at stock it pulls 215W from the wall which is about 194W from the power supply (Platinum Certified) and my power supply is rated at 450W.

No no no

That was a 1ghz card, easy at 1.25v.

Double check the vrm temps.
