Gamer Build for friend - Page 2

Cool, didn't notice that was the K version. However we are nowhere near a microcenter. Probably gonna go for the 3470, save ~$50 since the GPU is ~$90 more.

Going to change to Samsung 840 SSD, to shave off $20.

Samsung Ram instead of the Sniper Series to save ~$9

Also going to go for a cheaper PSU that doesn't offer much for Crossfire Ready - thinking that Rosewill Green 630. Save ~$20

How does that all look?

Aside from the monitor being large, I don't think quality will be an issue for gaming? I'm on a 23" 5ms Acer, and I am satisfied. thumb.gif

I am thinking about buying that Rosewill PSU for myself since it's got a nice promo-code. Would be building the system in about 9 months though, so I assume that PSU will be cheaper then in the economy? redface.gif

Is he going to have any storage drives? 128gb doesn't seem like much.
Edit: also, I would go with a 990fx motherboard if you are already going to go full out on the cpu

Looks good.

What prices will be in 9 months? Wish I knew, lol. tongue.gif

No storage for now, later on yes as he expands his game library.

I think we are skipping the AMD Build idea, not 100% sure yet.

I'm not sure if prices are going to go up or down on these sorts of things like computer components. Companies more desperate to sell....or more desperate to keep up with inflation? Though computer parts are more so world wide than JUST U.S. only, so maybe less impact than we would think. thumb.gif

Go to camelegg there you will find the price history of almost any product on newegg. Generally, Iv'e see that AMD products usually take a few months after release to depreciate in price, but it really depends upon what you purchase.

OP you aint planning to overclock the CPU ????doh.gif

I second mr freds build. You will see as good or better performace from that cpu (even with the 7770). Having said that, since you won't be building for 9 months, you are a bit early to the party. Prices for computer parts change daily. What might be a great deal today, is not tomorrow.

If I were you, I would check the classifieds on here and pick up parts over the next 9 months. There is currently a 2550K for $160 shipped there, and an Asrock Z77 extreme 6 for $110 - from the same buyer, so maybe a deal as a combo.

There are always new deals.

Keep the priority of the build on the GPU. The difference from cpu to cpu is not great, but from 7770 to 7870 is huge.

Tarun, with the AMD build he was going to in the future. Didn't see any games he played that would require the CPU to be O/C and it would require more cooling, so he didn't want to get aftermarket cooler until later. Though this is all left behind as Intel was the purchase made tonight.

Badwrench, I was talking about another build for myself in about 9 months. I'm still content with my signature rig. This post is about a friend's PC that I am going to build.

We ended up going with the 7870 and i5-3470 CPU. Wondering if it's going to fit in the case he picked out, Raidmax Altas I think. Can mod it if it's a problem though.

I may check out the classifieds here for my next step gaming rig. the 1155 builds are pretty appealing to me.

The monitors actually the questionable part in my perspective. A lot people on OCN (including myself) wouldn't recommend a 27 inch if the resolution is only 1080p... That said a lot of people don't have a problem with it. Has your friend used one before?
