Another 7950 Thread

Hey all, first post under this user id since i couldn't remember my old one...

My current setup is a 4850 + 4870 paired with a 4100 fx, no longer crossfired so i can run 3 24in samsungs. I'm looking to finally upgrade my graphics card(s), and i want something with enough ram to run bf3, and support stretching that **** across all 3. I've also got dragon age 2, a number of civ's, and some other games i'd like to see how they look on there (not all are supported...).

So after a couple hours of browsing various forums, and reading a number of reviews. I'm looking at a saphire boost 7950 or a HIS with boost 7950's.

The catch as i mentioned earlier was the 3 monitors. The monitors i have, are samsung s24b30bl. They have dvi and vga connections. I want to be able to spread the games that will work across all 3, on all 3. Does that mean i need a minimum of 2 display ports on a given card? What do i need to make this happen.

At least one monitor has to be hooked up with a displayport cable or an ACTIVE displayport to HDMI/DVI adapter as far as I'm aware.

So 2 monitors will be DVI and the other will be ACTIVE displayport to DVI.

you have a couple of options . get the normal sapphire HD 7950 boost or his hd 7950 iceq x2 boost. in that case you need an active minidisplayport to DVI adapter . you can use the DVI to HDMI Adapter which comes with the card.

active minidsplayport to DVI adapter.

the card with the game bundle can be got from superbiiz.

the other option is to get the Sapphire HD 7950 flex OC with boost . it has 2 DVI ports ,1 HDMI port and 2minidp ports. you can use the 2 dvi and 1 hdmi ports to connect the three monitors. the flex tech is explained here

Now i just need a fan controller that raises the fan speed as the temperature raises, like the cpu fan is supposed to. Or maybe a 3 way splitter for the cpu fan, and it can raise the fan speed for all of the fans instead of just the cpu fan. >.>

you can do that in software itself. you can setup a custom fan profile using msi afterburner or sapphire trixx to increase fan speed with increase in chip temps. thumb.gif

biggrin.gif Fantastic, thanks again. The 7950, a converter to dvi were ordered, just waiting on them to be here later in the week. I've got a second case i'm setting up to move my crap over to. My current case is an old antec full size case with 3 modded spots for additional air flow. It had 2 80 in, and 2 80 out plus psu out originally. Added 2 120's out at the top and 1 120 in on the side for the gpu for back when I had 2 6800gt's heh.

Will be moving it another old case...An antec p90 I think it was called, has 2 120's in, and 2 120's out plus psu. It's just quieter, I had a q6600 in it until the motherboard flaked out, was a dfi bloodiron, that was a fun setup but didn't have adequate cooling on the nb despite adding a fan on to the heatsink for it. I need to track down a new motherboard for that system, feels like a waste to let that cpu sit.
