Why does my 6800 downclock the RAM?

Thread Starter
Like the title says, lately every time I restart my PC and look at RivaTuner, the RAM on my nVidia 6800 (the standard version) down clocks to 411 MHz. I usually put it up to 822 MHz and I ran ATI Tool for over and hour with no artifacts. I'm leaning towards it being my PSU because it is stock. My friend said that it is probably a memory error. Has anyone else had this problem?

depending on your settings, rivatuner will downclock your memory when in 2d or low 3d mode. If you run 3dmark or play a game or something, you should see it bump back up to your oc settings. I hope that's clear enough

Doesn't Rivatuner not just simply report the external frequency of the RAM? Note that the RAM is DDR, so you can either report the actual frequency (the DDR speed, in this case 822MHz), or the external frequency (half the DDR speed, in this case 411MHz).

that's right, but when you oc using rivatuner you're setting the external frequency and you never see the actual frequency. If he's ocing with something else that is using the actual frequency, then that explains everything

It sounds like you are confusing the ddr speeds, as 411 doubled is exactally 822. Your memory is not being downcloked, its just a differant way of measuring the speed.

I don't think that's right. Here is what Everest is saying compared to RivaTuner.

Restart your computer, look in everest and see what it says. I really don't think your video card would underclock itself by half for no reason, but I can be wrong.

Also could we see a screen of the 411 mem clock in riva ?

I remember we stuck a 7900GTX in a pc and it downclocked the card because the PSU wasn't cutting it.
