I can confirm all the posts in this thread about the problems of multiple cards. First, I used to have a gtx 570, then a 680, and now I moved to tri-sli 680s. Two of the three 680s are a waste of money, and space with-in the case. The drivers will sometimes be a PITA. Most if not all of the games do not properly utilize 2 or more of the most powerful cards. The noise will increase as you add more cards. The cards will also get hotter because they will most likely be sandwiched on top of each other, and also depending on the airflow with-in the case. With that said, I will get rid of the two 680s and only keep one of them. Game wise, the same goes for the CPU. I upgraded from a 2500K to a 3930K and I regret it to this day. As I upgraded to a 3930K, i only saw some minor improvements here and there. But hey, this is OCN, nothing is overkill.

I agree with the CPU statement with most games except BF3 multiplayer, where the game can use all cores of the 3930k and a high OC gives me much more performance @ 5760x1080 120hz.

Are you saying 680 SLI does not scale well? Because 2-way SLI scaling is amazing in 99% of new games! 3-way things start to get tough, & 4-way things go to hell.

Or two 690s and use a 680 as physx lol. I would say just go dual 680s and put the cash of the extra cards in higher parts elsewhere.

Wich is a waste because a 5XX series card will do physics better then a 6xx series, REmember Nvidia stripped the compute part it's miserable at best.

Its a waste of money was the point I was trying to make, or three 690s and use one as physx would have been the better waste of money.

I would suggest getting the 690 if it have 8gb vram, it only have 4, means you actually have only 2gb of usable vram, even if you go dual 690 you will only have 2gb usable vram.

2gb vram in quad 680 or dual 690 is just a facepalm, you will run out of vram first before you run out of processing power.

I agree with the 670s. Looking at SLI benchmarks, the 670s vs 680s in tri-SLI are very close in performance, but we're talking about a 300 dollar difference in cost if not more. I bought my 670 withtthe intention of adding more as needed, specifically because of this.

There a few boards that do PCI-E 2.0 x8 natively. ASUS Maximus V EXTREME, RIVE, a few by EVGA, the Gigabyte G1 Sniper, & my board the Asrock Extreme 11 actually does PCI 3.0 x16 to all 4 GPUs(last 2 are with PLX chips)

I'm not expert, but doesn't the direct CPU path only have a set amount of lanes on SB/IVY?. I thought the boards that run those setups were using the chipset (PLX) to achieve it?. I'm no expert on it, I wouldn't know the advantages or effects of using direct lanes over chipsets ones. I thought PCI 3.0 officially was only supported at 2 x8 3.0 from Intel.
