New rig gets stuck at boot splash screen

Thread Starter
Hey guys, just built my first rig. Everything was going well until I did a restart and it got stuck at the gigabyte boot splash screen. I waited for a while and decided to enter bios by pressing delete but instead windows started to load. Did another restart, same thing happened. Gets stuck at the gigabyte splash screen and pressing a key starts windows. Tried a shutdown and power on and same thing happens. Not exactly sure how to troubleshoot this. Help please biggrin.gif

Go to your bios and check to make sure its loading from your OS drive first and not your disk drive/USB/other drives if that doesn't work try disconnecting all drives but your OS/boot drive

I checked and it is loading from my OS drive (ssd). I did a boot override from the OS drive and it worked when I was doing restarts and but not after a shutdown. Tried it again but no longer works. Can you tell me more about disconnecting the other drives. What do I do next?

Disable the splash screen in your BIOS and confirm there's no background error that is waiting for "any key" to continue.

Disable by turning off the gui? How do I confirm there's no background error?

The splash screen hides the Power On Self Test (POST) information, and maybe called 'full-screen logo' or something similar in the bios. Disabling this will print a load of info on screen when booting (processor type, speed, memory, attached devices etc)

If it were the keyboard (USB I presume) you could try either a different port (not a USB 3.0 one though) and/or check that the bios is set to support legacy USB devices. Usually this option is set to auto.

this happened to me, but only after a few months with a ud5h z77. i updated the bios to F14 (I think I was at F8 before that), and the problem went away.

Nope frown.gif Bios was already F14. I updated anyways and same thing still happens. I disconnected all the drives except the OS drive (ssd) and still happened. Plug them back in and made sure OS drive is first priority and still no fix. Any other ideas?

edit: Went into bios and disabled logo screen. Instead of showing the gigabyte splash screen it showed 'American Megatrends' logo. Pressing delete also starts windows. I did notice though that after pressing delete to start windows I can press delete again to start bios.
