need help in deciding final components to my new rig

Thread Starter
I get so many articles about products that say different things yet back it up with (information) that I need help. The best way to describe my build is "not building on a budget but building on a budget - best bang value without breaking the bank.
My goal is to be able to do some gaming....not a lot but when I do, I don't want to lag.
To be able to somehow network throughout my house as everything here is wifi-capable.
Some reading and research.
Basically use my computer as an ultimate Gamer Computer Boss on a Office computer.

The items that have arrived for my build--- (all are new in-box)

1. AMD FX 8350

2. Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0

3. G.SKILL RIPJAWSX DDR3 1866mhz F3-14900CL9Q-16GBXL Quad Channel Kit

4. Asus DVD/RW 24x DVD/RW

5. LG Electronics 14x Internal BDXL Blu-Ray Burner

6. SSD 128g OCZ Vertex 4

7. 2-500g hdd (possible 1 TB 1 500)

8. 2-EVGA GeForce GTX 560 2g superclocked +55MHz

9. AZZZA Solano 1000 case

10. 5.25 Media Dashboard Multi-Functional Panel for USB MMC SD SATA Card Reader 525A

Items pending/not ordered

11. PSU*

12. Cooler**

I am leaning towards *Corsair H55 Liquid CPU Cooler and **XFX PRO1050W Black Edition Full Modular 80PLUS Gold PSU. The price of the power supply seem rather high. I have seen many other types that are in the 900-1100w range that are very well priced and well reviewed (by some). **Price will play a big part as I would like a similar unit like this to be $50 lower. I have looked at reviews and units that are from $80-$109 and should be adequate as I am not "super max clocker ruler of the world". As far as cooling goes I just want better than factory heat-sink where it is easy to maintain and I don't have to mod-out my new case and cut holes in it.

My limitations are mostly on the water/air cooler as I seem to be limited to 150mm?? in height as the side case fan gets in the way. As far as pricing goes I know some companies are very proud of their product and I don't intend to feed their ego so I try to find a comparable model at a bargain basement price.

I am considering changing and selling the two 560's and get a single XFX Double D 7850.

Operating system will probably be Windows 7 Ulitmate...maybe Windows 8...not sure?

I would appreciate any input, no matter how much or little it is. At this time I can change any item except the case, CPU and MB. All items are new and unopened so that gives me flexibility. I have to consider that I had a tech savvy friend who seems to have abandoned me after I committed myself to this project and the items started arriving and what should have taken a few days to order is taking me literally weeks to order as there are so many different products and so many reviews...I am quite sure that I have read over 500 reviews as I am being overly cautious now that I have been seemingly deserted by my tech savvy friends.

But then after finding myself referring to overclockers.net on many occasions....I was like duh...I should have joined day 1 and I would be up and running by now...so I am HERE!!

Thanks in advance-

Update
I am already getting some great input....great ideas...already bringing back my Video cards even though I got them at bargain basement $140 each..would come out ahead with a 7870 or gtx 480

If it was me, I'd replace...

The RAM with samsung wonder ram, I'd get 2x 8GB kits, and overclock them straight to 2133mhz (my settings ATM)

The GPU's, I'd get a single HD 7950 and overclock it to HD 7970 performance.

The hard drives, get a single 1 or 2TB hard drive for storage, and a smaller hard drive (preferably an SSD) for the OS.

You will only need a Good 650W PSU to run even 7950's in Crossfire.

Hyper 212 Evo. Excellent cooler, for an even better price. thumb.gif

By the way, what country do you live in, and what website do you order from?

If you want in depth help, feel free to shoot me a PM thumb.gif

Thanks for the reply-

I am limited on the height of the cooler to 150mm~ according to the Azza case dimesnions. I was going to get 2 sticks of ram 8 gigs each but I got that set at a great price..but since you mentioned it...it sounds like I should have done that and I will have to be looking for a great deal to justify me selling the set I have...but it sound's good.

I think it is a good idea to get 1 TB drive with my SSD..so now I have to find a deal on a good TB drive.

I live in the USA and order from Amazon usually...I have ordered parts from venders all over the world as long as they sell through Amazon.
Sometimes Ebay..but I dislike Ebay ....prices are so much higher on Ebay now...have to go through 10 pages of vendors before I get to a legit action.

As far as the PSU goes, I have been using Asus PSU calculators and others that say I need at least 850w with this setup...but I add a few things to future-proof it as I want to network thru my house. The case has 5 large fans with 2 of them being 240mm with LEDs.

$300 for a graphics card is more than I paid for my FX 8350.....almost every $400 card I saw last Ime I bought a video card are now $29.95...so i want to go middle of the road..no more than ~$150.

Thanks for the ideas so far...smile.gif

The GTX 560 superclocked cards I have require 450W. I have a brand new Apevia 680w Artic Blast I am selling on Amazon I could use but according to the guides that put me close to the limit if i overclock....I will be running several devices USB and PCI.

I just looked at your rigs....nice!!

Could you list your complete rig specs mate? If you already have most of this stuff, probably no point in returning it.

Apart from those GPU's, if you could return them that would be awesome.

650W PSU would be fine for 680 SLI.

I have all the items listed 1 thru 10, all I am lacking is a PSU and Cooler.

I can return those GPU's. I only paid $140 each and they are going for much higher. It might be quicker to sell then go across town. $140 is darn good for this particular 2gig overclocked GPU and is not the standard 560 as they did score 3 tiers higher. I don't want to spend $300 on a GPU...but I will shop till i find a good sale...

I appreciate your input.

I agree with a QUALITY psu...I don't think my Apevia has great quality built into it. Still not sure if 650w would get me down the road when I sli and start running more cards etc..? Those psu calculators always had over 800W?

Welcome thumb.gif

I have the same case in my build log but i kinda hacked mine up a little biggrin.gif

As for power supply's
i like my corsair hx 850 id reccomend that
And coolers id use a rasa kit to watercool.

And for the gpu i would spend 300$ on one card imho the new generation are leaps and bounds better than the 500 series.

Also reccomending getting the samsung wonder ram.
On a note on the case, the sidefan pushes in alooooot of dust.

Go with the Sapphire 7870 XT, it's a 7950 with some disabled cores.

It's generally better to have 1 faster card than 2 lesser ones in SLi, however if you got them for a bargain price and are happy then go nuts (55MHz factory OC does not make a standard 560 some mega card though).

For a cooler you are going to not only look at case clearance but RAM clearance, I am pretty sure the heatsinks on that RAM will get in the way of a Hyper 212. I would look at a Corsair h80i (similar performance to the standard h100).

PSU.... 850 is insane. At full load that rig will use about 500W, so allowing some room you dont need anything more than a quality 600W or 650W (though finding a PSU with the correct connectors for your 2 GPU's may mean you end up buying a larger unit).
