need help in deciding final components to my new rig - Page 3

As I said, 650W would be fine for 680 SLI. An high end PSU wilp past long and will not damage components because it is well-designed and has protections.

You don't have to be afraid to go 650W. smile.gif

Calculators are WAY overrated in case you use cheap-ass PSUs that cannot even get close to their rated wattage.

Also, on high end PSUs the rating is lowee thabn what they can deliver in order to give headroom so tyou're fine.

Only reason I am going at least 850w is to do some potential future proofing..just in-case i do SLi and add more devices....according to the PSU calculators from various sites I need at least 800+w?

Even with the SLi 560's or crossfired 7870 you will not need that much power, SLi 560 and your 8350 with the HDD's and stuff you list will use about 500W at 100% load hence a quality 600/650 being plenty though as I said you may end up buying a 750W for the connectors

Well the 7870 is sounding really good.....I can take the gtx 560's back. The 7870 does perform tons better. The Azza case has 5 big fans and one is that huge 240mm fan on the side. I am going to put in some wifi capabilities and TV tuner cards etc which will take a few more watts

I will use the ASUS calculator to get me in the ball park and whatever the Minimum recommendation is I will go 100w above it. I have used several sites and most are similar.

Look at it this way. (with overclocking)

Around 140w for the processor, 150W for the GPU (if you get a 7870) and maybe 100W for the rest of the system.

That's only like 400W, so a good 650W will easily run that system.

I understand what you are saying so I used overclockers.net 's psu calculator ( http://psucalc.net/ ) When I plugged in my rig build it suggested to have 650w-750w.
One of the suggestions was Rosewill HIVE Series HIVE-750 750W and by clicking on it it took me to a link where I could compare prices and buy the psu here ---> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182133&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Power+Supplies-_-N82E16817182133&gclid=COvN39ng97QCFQf0nAod9h8Alw That was pretty awesome to give me suggestions.

My Azza case have 5 very large fans 2 - 240mm fans 1 - 120mm fan, 2 - 140mm fans which I am taking into account.

Since there is a high possibility that I will be adding components that will draw power and various things in my house as I want to limit myself when I add components and all its capabilities with my TV, Blu Ray and DVD settups. I am also going to use it for movies etc and multiple monitors. If I see a high quality PSU that is 1050W that is the same price as the Corsair and XFX 850w then I will opt to get the 1050W. But it would have to be a quality build PSU that is modular.

It would not hurt anything to go higher than needed but I understand what you are saying on what is really required on a PSU and really appreciate your input smile.gif

My concern now is getting a proper cooler that fits with the 150mm height limitation that is easy to set up and install.
That's a fairly restrictive height, the high end air coolers are bigger than that iirc.

You'd probably do well with something like a Corsair H80i closed liquid cooling loop, or something along those lines. Or if you were willing to spend a few extra pennies, a H100i.

EDIT: Does your case even support 240mm rads?

He asked for something that is easy to setup and install. If you've never used a custom loop before, it's a sizable challenge. wink.gif

This case is the Azza Solano 1000 and is a full tower with 5 fans 3 of them are 240mm. I am not sure about it being able to support RADs but there is plenty of room.....the only problem I have is Height..on top of the CPU there is 150mm clearance because of the side 240mm fan. I could mount the fan on the outside but I don't want to do that now. I just want to get it going

I returned the 2 gpu 560 cards. I am looking at the graphics card Saphire http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202024&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=6146846&SID=dfv0gdpybro3 or the XFX 7870 here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150605 and an easy to install hope I can get it to fit cooler here---
