AMD Trinity A8 5600K vs i3 2100

Which one is faster in games? Some geeks told me the i3 is faster, while in this Tom's hardware article (http://m.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html) the 5600K is placed in a higher tier than the i3. Which one will deliver better FPS in games combined with a dedicated card and: 8 gigs of RAM?

with dedicated card: i3
without dedicated card: A8

i3 has better single thread performance and the A8 more multithread performance. You can overclock the A8 to make up the for slower single thread speed, and for most games it should be equal or better. Though their are some games that will probably still work better on the i3 even if you had the A8 @4.6-4.8ghz, but not by much anyways. (star craft probably)

If it was me I would probably get the A8 and overclock it, though Really if your not using the iGPU why not just get a FX6300? I would take a FX6300 over a i3 3220 any day if I was going to use a dedicated video card.

At stock I would rather have the i3 (i would go 3220, Ivy is better thumb.gif)
Overclocking the AMD chips take it.

the FX6300 would be better then ether of them, period.

My personal recommendation is on investment into FM2 over 1155. This is your chance to invest in a significantly more future-ready platform, with the performance potential to destroy every offering on the market with next-gen APUs.

CPU-specific performance pertaining to gaming is usually even on the current-gen A10-5800k though will vary left or right depending on exactly which games you play. This does not factor overclocking ability into account.

On FM2 you can have a quality A55 for $50 (i.e. B75 equivalent) and a quality A75-A85 (Z68-Z77 equivalent) for $70-80 - so the platform prices may be less expensive than 1155 chipsets with equal features to start with, alongside an i3. FM2 is getting two new-generation APUs this year, including an HSA-enabled APU at end-year which will slay every top end Intel i7 with HSA optimization.

1155 is done as a socket; while you have good upgrade potential to a 3570k and 3770k, you will miss out on the latest-gen Intel Haswell CPUs and the 3570k and 3770k will also be obliterated by the HSA-enabled APUs at end-year.

With no doubt in my mind the A8 5600k, because by the looks of it you aren't going to buy a dedicated GPU and the integrated graphics on the A8 obliterates the integrated graphics on the i3. Also, because just like what xd_1771 said, socket 1155 is a dead socket and socket FM2 is just beginning and the new Kaveri APU's that are coming out by the end of this year are going to beat i7's in CPU performance and as for GPU performance i would say that it will be about equivalent to a Radeon HD 7770 or 7850, but thats just a guess. thumb.gif

I have a dedicated card, I was asking which one will give me more FPS in games...

what card do you have?
if its a 6570/6670 you can crossfire it with the APU, which will get you higher fps compared to i3 with 6670.

If your card cant crossfire with the APU, get an FX4300 or FX6xxx, both will be faster than an i3 at the same price since they can overclock over 4ghz easily.
Only go with the i3 if heat and electric bill is a big issue.

Can this be so ?

I have an unused Asrock FM2 A75 Pro4 sitting here on my desk, and a Z77 with i5 3470s in my computer.

Everything I've seen shows the i5 to be way ahead of all the FM2 CPUs, and use less power.

What is coming by way of AMD CPU's that will be better than my i5 ? Are these Kaveri's really so good ?

What dedicated card is it? If it's a sufficiently decent one, just go with a Phenom II X4 965 BE / FX 6300 with a AM3+ board as there won't be any need for an integrated GPU.
No it's something I bought because it was a bargain. thought it may make a good work computer, but now with the above gent saying that they are going to beat intel in the future I'm wondering if it could be a game box - and if it beats intel Ivy Bridge it would also beat phenom.
But intel are way faster so has the gap just got too wide to catch up ? Is there any evidence that these Kivera's are going to be >= Ivy ?

you can pick up an i5 3470 for under £100 on ebay, especially at auction, so cost performance is pretty hard to beat if you are prepared to go second hand or buy tray edition like I did.
