How long will my PC last?

This is my PC rig. how long will it last before I need to upgrade? I use my my PC for games, 3D rendering, general PC use. Can I get 3 years out of this PC?

I'm not a hardcore gamer and I do 3D rendering as a hobby. I'm a 23 year old journalism student.

I'd up the psu to a 500-600 watt, 450 seems to weak for all that.

Gaming, depends on settings... 6870 isn't really a powerhouse these days.

Everything else. should be good for a couple years or so.

Yeah I'd say 2-3 years, by then steam roller should be out anyway and you can upgrade. Also I know heavy 3D rendering sometimes benefits from alot of RAM, preferably 16gb (some people say it's overkill but I know alot of applications that can utilize it and perform) but again I don't know how heavy your renders are, 8gb will still do you well.

What they say about psu, and gpu I agree with but I would also like to add maybe bump the hdd to 1TB. Since you're planning to keep it for so long might as well get a bigger HDD since after 3 years 500GB will be very tight even with minimal 3D rendering.

Thanks for the reply guys.

MK16, I have though about upgrading to corsair 600W. Before I got 450 XFX PSU, I had Seasonic 330W and it powered my current rig just fine under full load. Only got a new PSU because everyone told me to get a new one.

Deafboy, I have been thinking about cross-firing two 6870's, but I'm not too sure if that's a good idea. I heard negative things about cross-firing.

junkerde, I may need a new memory. Every time I try too export high polygon object file scenes in Softimage or 3DS max , my PC runs out of ram.

Crossfire can be fine but all multi-gpu solutions can have their quirks. You'd be better off selling yours though and buying a single powerful GPU in my opinion.

I see it is pretty heavy then, yeah that might need to be an option, I know gamers dont need more than 8gb but for renders, video editing, etc, it is a whole nother story where the 16gb actually is used and helps.

DDR3 is still cheap at this point, if you intend to keep the system for 2-3yrs it'd be wise to max out the ram to the motherboard's capability. The majority of the system should suffice for a couple years, and in a perfect world will begin to see an improvement if and when developers start threading to take advantage of 8 separate threads. I'd say if games begin to show your 6870's age, buy a newer video card, and if you run out of space, upgrade the storage as needed. I doubt the 8350 will be a significant "bottleneck" for a long time.

edit: that power supply should suffice if it's of good quality for a single gpu system with 1 ssd and 1 hdd. I use less for more.
